The French Red Cross (CRf) and the Cameroon Red Cross (CRC) are humanitarian associations, auxiliary to the public authorities, which provide aid and assistance to vulnerable people




Since 2010, the French Red Cross (CRf) has been present in Cameroon and intervenes in the fields of health, nutrition and food security and livelihoods (SAME) in the Eastern and Far North regions.

Presentation of the post
Objective / Summary of the position. 

Placed under the responsibility of the Deputy Logistics Coordinator, the driver is in charge of:

  •  Transportation and safety of people and goods
  •  Loading and unloading of the vehicle
  •  Small mechanics/Vehicle maintenance
  •  Compliance with procedures and code of conduct



Location of the position

This position is open to persons with the required profile and the successful candidate must reside in Yaoundé by his/her own means; It is therefore not subject to relocation. Le.la candidate selected at the end of the recruitment process will therefore not be able to claim the status of delocalized employee.

Responsibilities
1. Transport

    •  Ensures the movement of FIU staff according to the travel schedule defined by the logistics department and this, in the best possible conditions of transport for people and / or equipment;
    •  Drives carefully while respecting established speed limits, highway code and internal safety rules of the French Red Cross;
    •  Ensures that persons on board are authorized to borrow FIU vehicles; otherwise, refuse support. In the event that persons not belonging to the FIU team are authorized to travel in the NGO’s vehicle, the driver is responsible for having him sign a waiver of responsibility;
    •  Before each departure: fasten their seat belt and ensure that each passenger has properly fastened his/her seatbelt;
    •  Ensures before departure that the vehicle is roadworthy (condition of tires, engine oil level, radiator coolant, etc.), has enough fuel to make the scheduled trip; If not, inform his hierarchical superior
    •  Stay close to your vehicle and is ready to leave at any time (Park in the starting position);

  •  Ensures the safety of the vehicle which must always be under his supervision;
  •  Adapts its speed according to the state of the road and its load;
  •  Takes care of formalities at the checkpoint, solicits passengers (presentation of identity papers, passports,…) only when expressly requested by the authorities;

2. Loading and unloading of the vehicle

  •  Is responsible for loading his vehicle. In other words, he participates in the loading, ensures that the goods are safe to ensure the journey and that the weight of the goods respects the maximum load of the vehicle;
  •  Ensures that the waybill conforms to the load. As a reminder, when the driver signs a Waybill, he becomes responsible for the goods until the waybill is unloaded by the recipient;
  •  Participates in the unloading of goods while respecting the goods;
  •  When the vehicle is loaded, the driver must stand close to it at all times to avoid loss/theft;




3. Small maintenance/mechanics of the vehicle

  •  At each start of duty, the driver must check his vehicle in accordance with the instructions of his superior. Alerts his superior if he detects anomalies;
  •  Checks the mileage of his vehicle to carry out the necessary maintenance (A, B and C) and alerts his superior 2 weeks before the expired date;
  •  Under validation by his superior, the driver can carry out type A maintenance in accordance with the procedures;

4. Compliance with procedures

  •  Completes all documents related to vehicle maintenance (logbook, daily overhaul, etc.);
  •  In case of advance received from the Administration, pay any invoices and others that are paid in the field;
  •  Ensures the conformity of invoices: date, supplier stamp, failing that: name, telephone number and identity card number, name of FIU, total amount in figures and letters, signature of the supplier;
  •  Refuses any non-compliant invoice;
  •  Returns to the Administration within the time limit the balance of the advance as well as all supporting documents;
  •  During the transport of goods, he ensures compliance with the indicated procedures (signature of waybill and other documents) in accordance with the indications of the logistics department;

Qualification and experience
Diploma and skills required:

  •  BEPC or any equivalent degree;
  •  Category B driving licence, category D driving licence is an asset;

Specific knowledge:

  •  Having at least 02 years’ experience in a similar position, experience with an NGO and/or an international agency would be a plus;
  •  Knowledge of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement;
  •  Resistance to stress;
  •  Patience, adaptability and flexibility (to a possible modification of the work schedule);
  •  Know how to respect safety rules, internal procedures.
  •  Mastery of the Highway Code and safety rules;
  •  Good mastery of the city of Yaoundé and its surroundings.
