The IRC began operations in Cameroon in 2016 to respond to the growing concerns of people affected by violence linked to Boko Haram, in the Far North of the country.

Assistance to displaced populations extends across the Far North, including Mayo Sava, Mayo Tsanaga and Logone & Chari, providing assistance programs to improve access to water and improve sanitation practices. hygiene in vulnerable displaced and host communities, cash transfer programs to enable vulnerable families to meet basic needs and improve food security, and protection programs, including addressing the specific needs of women and girls.

Field offices are located in Maroua and Kousseri with a representative office in Yaoundé. Following the growing crisis in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, the IRC expanded its operations to the South West region in August 2018 and to the North West in December 2019. The IRC provides vital humanitarian assistance to internally displaced populations, with a field base in Buea and Bamenda.

 



OVERVIEW:

Since 2021, IRC launched Child Protection activities in the South West Regions of Cameroon, as part of the Violence and Protection Response Unit (VPRU) interventions, to respond to the humanitarian protection needs of vulnerable and at-risk children caused by the protracted crisis situations in the South West region.

This project seeks to ensure that the situation of the persons of concern is continuously monitored in these regions, key protection risks identified and analyzed, children with specific needs identified and referred for further assessment and assistance, and that communities are monitored, and community level concerns are identified and referred for further assessment. Child Protection incidents will be continuously documented analyzed and reported to IRC.

IRC is recruiting a Child Protection MEAL Assistant, who is a member of the Child Protection Team, operating in the North West and South West Regions. The role of the MEAL Child Protection Assistant will be to ensure the implementation of child protection monitoring activities in the field. Under the responsibility of the Senior MEAL officer and with the latter’s technical support, the M&E assistant performs well-defined tasks to provide support to IRC programs.

He is in charge of optimizing the monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning of IRC’s mission in Cameroon. This is to ensure high quality programming for the clients we serve and to support the global ambitions of IRC’s Strategy100.

 

 




RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow-up activities:

Collaborate with programs to ensure routine data collection according to the MEAL project work plan;

Support the administration of data collection surveys, customer satisfaction surveys and customer feedback collection systems;

Supervise investigators during data collection, report to the Senior MEAL Officer any challenges encountered

Collaborate with the Senior MEAL Officer to provide inputs in the collection tools;

Conduct an initial data review for a specific ECHO and SIDA project in the North West and South West for the Child Protection sector and/or geographic area or sector

Enter and maintain customer tracking and feedback databases;

Produce simple reports;

Other related tasks as required

 




Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

Skills and knowledge acquired through a combination of job-related training, practical on-the-job experiences and some form of formal education including:

A formal education preferably but not necessarily;

An ability to undertake activities in the area of MEAL based on the advice of a supervisor;

A basic understanding of MEAL in the field, mechanisms and functions of customer feedback and feedback systems;

Experience and/or training in survey, monitoring and evaluation methods, as well as in quantitative and qualitative analysis, is an asset;

Experience working with community representatives, youth and adults from diverse backgrounds;

Good written and verbal communication skills;

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word;

A willingness to travel to various regional and field offices;

Language to master: English, knowledge of local languages and French is an asset,
