Other information
Living conditions and remarks
The city of Bertoua, capital of the Eastern region, is in a relatively calm security situation. The system put in place by the administrative authorities maintains the general level of security at a moderate level, which allows the peaceful pursuit of the activities of the local populations. However, crime inside the urban center can be seen as the most palpable threat to private property. Although United Nations personnel and capabilities are not specific targets, they are not entirely spared.

In the neighboring regions of the CAR, the activism of armed elements is hampered by the regular operations of the security forces. There are four seasons in the Eastern Region: 02 dry seasons and 02 rainy seasons, (subtropical climate), basic infrastructure as well as leisure and recreation facilities with few sanitary facilities available locally; there are 04 commercial banks and the possibility of rapid transfer with specialized companies. The official languages of Cameroon are English and French. Visa, passport and yellow fever vaccination card are required for entry. Other vaccines are strongly recommended.

Statement of Inclusiveness
The United Nations Volunteers program is an equal opportunities program that welcomes applications from qualified professionals. We are committed to achieving diversity in gender, care and protected characteristics. As part of their adherence to the values of the UNV programme, all United Nations Volunteers undertake to combat all forms of discrimination, and to promote respect for human rights and individual dignity, without distinction of race, sex, gender identity, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, age, language, social origin or any other status.

Note on Covid-19 vaccination requirements
This UNV assignment is subject to proof of vaccination against Covid-19 with a WHO-approved vaccine, unless the UNHCR Medical Service approves a waiver of this requirement for medical reasons.
