For our National Program Office in Cameroon, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Intern, for Socio-economic monitoring, to help the impact monitoring program meet its needs.

 

Reports to: Congo Basin Impact Monitoring Program Coordinator

Location: Yaounde

Duration : One (1) year

 

 

 

Mission of the department 

For Congo Basin countries to actively contribute to the results of certain practices (Wildlife, Forests, Agriculture, Climate and Energy, Freshwater and Governance) implemented in their respective programs, it is important to have a monitoring program designed and implemented accordingly. With regard to the new challenges and the need to continue and extend the monitoring program to other goals and objectives developed in accordance with the practices, the implementation of the Congo Basin biomonitoring program has been adapted. The program was designed as an “integrated biomonitoring program” which is intended to be incorporated into daily activities for greater effectiveness. I’

 

Being the main strategic axis of the impact monitoring program, the collection of reliable and structured data comprises seven distinct and complementary components to help better orient, optimize and evaluate activities and conservation results. The monitoring of socio-economic impacts represents an important pillar of the data components. It is necessary to collect, structure and analyze socio-economic data in order to produce relevant results demonstrating the impacts of conservation activities on local communities. To help the impact monitoring program fill this need, we are looking for an intern in socio-economic monitoring.

 

Main duties

Under the supervision of the Impact Monitoring Program Coordinator for the Congo Basin, and in close collaboration with members of the regional coordination and national teams, the intern for socio-economic monitoring will focus on the development of data collection protocols , the monitoring of data collection, the compilation and structuring of existing and new data, as well as the analysis of this data and the production of technical reports.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

1)       Set up and implement a robust method for estimating the well-being score adapted to the context of WWF in the Congo Basin.

2)       Develop data collection protocols.

3)       Conduct field missions to collect data and build capacity of field teams.

4)       Compile the collected information in a structured way in databases.

5)       Assist in data analysis in accordance with program objectives.

6)       Provide support for any other regional program activities when required.

 

Profile

 

 Qualifications required o Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, specifically in socio-economic studies or a related field;        

o Be regularly enrolled in a national or international university for a doctoral thesis.

 

  •        Skills and competencies required:

o   Good written and spoken skills (English and French). o Demonstrated experience in the application of social survey methods and data analysis. o Proven skills in creating and managing databases.

o   Proven skills in statistics and data analysis (Excel, other relevant software).

o   A scholarship or research grant for the thesis will be an asset.

o   Basic knowledge of biodiversity conservation and management of protected areas will be an asset.

o   Good computer skills (MS Office, online research, etc.). o Able to work with minimal supervision.

o   Able to demonstrate WWF behaviors in ways of working: aim for impact, listen carefully, collaborate openly and innovate without fear.

o   Able to work effectively in diverse cultural environments.
