Job description
1. Context
Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the most important humanitarian organizations in the world. The IRC provides relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction support to victims of oppression and violent conflict. Present in more than 40 countries, IRC’s mission is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and take charge of their future.
Faced with a growing humanitarian crisis, the IRC launched emergency programs in the Far North region of Cameroon. Programs include Environmental Health, Food Security, Women’s Protection and Empowerment, Protection and Rule of Law, WASH, Recovery and Economic Development. In its 2020 strategic action plan, IRC Cameroon is committed to continuing to provide essential humanitarian services, with a focus on community safety and ensuring that affected populations can meet their basic needs. , while building the resilience of beneficiaries, especially women and girls, and addressing the needs of young people.
2. Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Assistant Case Manager will ensure that children exposed or victims of Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, Abuse and Neglect are identified and benefit from individual support. He/she also provides support to parents and families. He/she will have to work in coordination with the other social workers, the other departments of the IRC and the services present in the communities in order to provide an integrated response to the various needs of the Child. The protection assistant will work closely with community relays, parent committees, community structures and teachers to identify cases in the community and in schools.
3. Area of intervention
The Child Protection Assistant case manager will be based in Fotokol in the Logone & Chari department with frequent trips throughout the Program coverage area as needed.
Duration of Position: 03 Months
4. Responsibilities
The Child Protection Assistant case manager will have the following responsibilities:
A. Implementation of activities
· Provide individual and appropriate follow-up to children exposed to or victims of violence , abuse, neglect and exploitation
· Responsible for each stage of case management: assessing the needs and risks of children and their families, developing action plans, providing direct support, referring cases, and ensuring follow-up for all cases referred to him are assigned. He/she will document every step and action taken.
· Ensure the documentation of cases and the regular updating of databases;
Ensure at all times respect for the confidentiality of identified protection cases and ensure its timely application at all levels
Provide psychosocial support to parents, families as well as foster families and other support systems alternative reception.
· Strictly adhere to the fundamental principles of child protection and case management: confidentiality, child participation, best interests of the child, non-discrimination and “Do No Harm” .
· Ensure effective and regular communication with the Child Protection Officer
· Communicate effectively and regularly with other social workers as well as other IRC child protection programs (SHLS, Parenting Group)
· Develops and maintains good working relationships with community relays and community structures in the area of intervention
B- Reporting and Coordination
· Submit to the supervisor, within the deadlines, the internal reports;
· Produces reports and contributes to monthly and project progress reports
· Participates in weekly internal coordination meetings as well as inter-organizational coordination meetings if necessary
· Works in coordination with other actors and services existing in the areas of intervention to provide a better response to the needs of children and their families
· Management of the documentation and data system and application of monitoring tools
· Contributes to the development of activities for future projects and grants
General
· Commits to respect the IRC Way (IRC Ethics).
· Undertakes to ensure the optimal implementation of these Policies in its work environment.
· Is available to carry out any other ad hoc task deemed useful by his direct superior or by the IRC.
· Ensure that all activities will be implemented in accordance with IRC operational policies.
· Proactively and regularly assesses the safety and security of field teams and reports any incidents or concerns to the Protection Officer.

Profile
· Technical degree or degree in social work, psychology, social science or related degree desired
· At least 1 year of experience implementing child protection, psychosocial support or case management programs
· Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts desirable
· Demonstrated understanding of working with children and vulnerable children
Fluency in French essential, working knowledge of other local languages is an asset
Previous experience in emergency preparedness and response preferred
Work experience in the Fotokol area desirable
