PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’
prescriptions, protocols applied I service and universal hygiene standards/precautions,
in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES
Responsibilities |
Under the supervision of the nurse supervisor, and Project Medical Referent, the
Referral Nurse will be responsible for the following main activities to ensure the
quality of care of patients referred from health centers:
Communication with field teams regarding new, existing and past referrals
Act as the key link between ALIMA-DEMTOU and designated referral facilities
Receive the patients from implementing sites at the place of referral and ensure
their timely treatment by relevant services
Oversee any intervention and/or treatment of patients referred from health
facilities
Facilitate appropriate discharge and follow up of al ALIMA-DEMTOU patients
Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly referral data
Reporting and attendance to relevant meetings
Documentation of treatment received and collection of invoices from the referral
sites.
Task Description
Communication
Be available to receive calls from the field team at all times.
Produce daily and weekly report for the Project Medical Referent
Create and maintain good working relationships with referral facilities staff.
Liaise with patient families or designated guardians as appropriate
Uphold the principle of confidentiality and actively promote the right of the patient
to choose their care.
Obtain consent from the patient verbal and written when necessary
At the end of each day, provide necessary updates to the nurse supervisor and
Project Medical Referent (PMR) regarding the referral cases.
Communicate all patient management with Nurse Supervisor or PMR on a daily
basis.
Report any safety and security concerns to focal person as soon as possible
Patient Management :
Adhere to the ALIMA-DEMTOU Lifesaving Referral Criteria at all times and seek
approval from line manager on any referrals, which do not meet criteria.
Adhere to the terms of the MoU and ALIMA-DEMTOU referral policy.
Personally receive patients referred from sites of implementation at the designated
referral sites.
Ensure their timely care from referral facility staff.
Liaise with referral facility staff on patient diagnosis, management and discharge
plans.
Provide feedback to chief of Health Facilities on referral patients.
Accompany patients to other referral sites where necessary.
Communicate all patient management with nurse supervisor or PMR.
Help to identify any gaps in referral site resources and notify appropriate persons.
Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly referral data:
Submit weekly report to the nurse supervisor on weekly basis
Liase with Monitoring and Evaluation Department regarding referral data
collection when required.
Documentation of treatment received and collection of invoices from the referral
sites:
Use the designated forms to document clearly the treatment received by each
individual ALIMA-DEMTOU patient.
Submit invoices to the budget holder on a weekly basis with the accompanying
treatment and receipts evidence.
Resolve any discrepancies in the invoice(s) with the referral site focal person.
Manage cash flow for patient and caretaker maintenance costs.

Prohibitions (sanctions for these will be by immediate dismissal without notice and
balance of all accounts):
To consume any alcoholic or other drug during working hours
To use the organization’s equipment and/or materials for private purposes
To leave duty post during working hours without proper authorization from
supervisor and proper handover
To sleep while on duty
Others
Give suggestions to improve the functioning of health facilities working in alliance
with ALIMA-DEMTOU and the referral pathway
Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting
good quality services
Perform other additional duties on request of the line manager
Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem
Because of the emergency relief nature of ALIMA-DEMTOU work, working hours
may be irregular and employees are expected to be flexible in their approach to
working hours under emergency conditions.
He/she works under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor.
The employee shall respect AIMA-DEMTOU schedule, Terms, and Conditions of
Engagement for National Staff and is expected to be available anytime in order to
answer to an emergency and be flexible and available beyond normal working
hours if requested.
This job description can be modified according to changes in ALIMA-DEMTOU
activities or in the context. It can be amended at any time after mutual consultation,
in order to fit the requirements of the programs.
EXPERIENCES, SKILLS AND QUALITIES
Bachelor degree in nursing, state registered nurse, HND/HPD in nursing)
At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position
Experience in a humanitarian medical response setting
Experience in team management and coaching
Ability to analyze and organize
Critical sense and strength of proposal
Autonomy and curiosity
Flexibility and stress management
Strong listening and empathy skills
Ability to work in a team with multicultural contexts
Rigor
Previous experience with ALIMA or other NGOs in Cameroon is an asset.
Being domiciled in Menji is an advantage.
Languages: English compulsory, French an asset
