Founded in 2011, International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) is an international non-governmental organization that supports humanitarian actors in security by establishing platforms for security coordination in risky contexts.

INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of services free of charge to its partners, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reporting, security-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO provides daily support to over 1000 NGOs in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries.

INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

 




 

INSO Cameroon:

INSO Cameroon started its activities in 2017 as one of the INSO offices for the Lake Chad Basin, and was launched as an autonomous Mission at the end of 2021. Today, the program has regional offices in Maroua and Buea, and a branch in Bamenda. The national office is located in Yaoundé the capital. Conflicts between armed groups, inter-communal violence, climate-related disasters and weak socio-economic infrastructure have resulted in significant humanitarian needs. As part of the INSO programs in Cameroon, you will support around 100 local and international NGOs to deliver life-saving aid safely.

The Safety Advisor North will be based in Maroua (Far North Region) with frequent travel to its coverage areas.

Summary of functions:

Under the responsibility and direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director, the Safety Advisor will be responsible in particular for the development of analysis products according to INSO standards, the management of the personnel under his responsibility and the monitoring of the conformity of the services.

 

 

 

The successful candidate will have a strong background in NGO safety and security management. He will be an open, curious, rigorous person, and experienced in building and managing high-performance teams. The candidate will also have the ability to analyze security issues and complex contexts, to communicate in French both orally and in writing at an excellent level and, above all, to share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles.

 

 

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Set up an active information network bringing together NGOs, the United Nations, government forces and other actors in the regions under its responsibility;
  • Ensure the provision of INSO services (scheduled services and on-demand services) by providing timely and credible contextual analysis of the local security situation, in accordance with internal standards and policies;
  • Facilitate NGO community security roundtables;
  • Participate in various coordination meetings and forums related to humanitarian aid;
  • Help NGOs develop their own security management capabilities by providing sound advice, reviewing policy documents, conducting site security assessments and assisting with crisis management;
  • Manage, support and build the capacity of an operational team, including the supervision of national staff;
  • Effectively represent, promote and protect INSO’s mandate of independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Preconditions:

  • Fluent French compulsory, good knowledge of English (oral and written);
  • Education at master’s level or equivalent in a relevant field;
  • Experience of at least 2 years in an NGO position with responsibilities for risk management and humanitarian access;
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian action principles and practices, risk management, security and NGO access;
  • Excellent writing, analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to extract trends from data and integrate them into analytical reports;
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours depending on INSO service deadlines, emergencies.

Desired skills:

  • Good understanding of the context of the Lake Chad Basin crisis
  • Professional background that reflects experience in the areas of security and humanitarian access;
  • Experience in capacity building and staff training;

Terms and conditions :

12 month contract. Monthly salary of €4550 per month, 4 calendar days of annual leave per month worked, 7 days of R&R every 3 months with allowance of €1250, accommodation, comprehensive medical cover (USA excluded) and life insurance included.
