and committed Forest Program Officer.

Hierarchical supervision: Director of the host country

Mission of the department:
Forests have been at the heart of WWF’s work in the Congo Basin since its establishment
in the region, helping to move the forestry sector towards sustainability and transparency,
and working to end deforestation , helping to restore forests and implement
commitments to eliminate deforestation. The global importance of the Congo Basin forests for nature, climate and people
is increasingly recognized. At the same time, deforestation rates
in the region are increasing. This is a new role that will allow WWF in the
Congo Basin to strengthen its leadership on Central African forests and accelerate progress
in achieving global forest practice results in the
Congo Basin. .

 

 

Main functions:
WWF is looking for a ”Forest Program Officer” for the Congo Basin to support
WWF Cameroon, Congo and Gabon teams in the valuation of payments for
ecosystem services and contribute to the development of community forests. The
position will be based in one of WWF’s offices in the Congo Basin, with
frequent travel to other countries in the ecoregion, and is funded by WWFFrance. The program officer will work in close collaboration with the various
offices and the ”Forest Hub Coordinator” of the Congo Basin.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
In support of the forest teams of Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville and Cameroon, the position will be
under the responsibility of the ”Forest Hub Coordinator” and will have the following main missions:
● Pilot the implementation of projects in the field in connection with the WWF France offices,

Cameroon, Congo and Gabon, by preparing, piloting and reporting to public and private donors ;
● Lead projects and provide technical support on the theme of
community forestry;
● Develop payment for ecosystem services projects favorable to biodiversity and climate, with private forest concessionaires and/or community
forests . Qualifications, aptitudes and skills required: Qualifications required:  A minimum baccalaureate level +5 training in ecology, management or forest economics (engineering school or university),  Minimum 5 years of experience during which you have acquired in particular:

– A practice of tropical forest management in the Congo Basin;
– An ability to develop and manage field projects;
– Proven knowledge of community forestry and the challenges of
managing biodiversity and carbon in the forest;
– Knowledge of payment mechanisms for ecosystem services
(notably REDD+) as well as tools for managing and evaluating biodiversity
and carbon in the forest.
Skills and competencies required:
 French and English (oral and written);
 Capacity development and project management;
 Good oral and writing skills;  Strength of conviction, good facilitation, communication and adaptation skills
to different interlocutors, both in the public and private sectors;
 Ability to work transversally, in networks and in teams;
 Organization, rigour, autonomy.
Position conditions
● Position to be filled on a full-time permanent contract
● Remuneration according to profile and experience
● Position based at the headquarters of one of the WWF offices in the Congo Basin ecoregion
● Plan regular trips to Gabon, Cameroon and Congo.
