As part of the implementation of its activities in Cameroon, the international humanitarian NGO INSO is looking for a Finance Assistant.

Supervised by : Financial Officer

 

 

 

General Responsibilities:

 

The responsibilities of this position will be to assist the CFO in the execution of day-to-day transactions, including the payment of expenses, taxes and salaries, as well as the maintenance of accounting entries and the archiving of accounting documents. The financial assistant (or cashier) works under the supervision of the Finance Officer.

 

Specific tasks:

 

  • Make payments on time. Ensure, prior to payment, that supporting documents are complete in all respects. Prepare checks and bank transfer slips and submit them for signature. Photocopy the proofs of payment and file them with the invoices in chronological order. Deal with local banks. Submit and collect documents from local banks.

 

  • Process petty cash transactions   . Perform daily petty cash reconciliation and submit replenishment requests to meet cash requirements. Issue cash advances to authorized personnel. Put in place an appropriate recording system for the sums advanced. Effectively track outstanding amounts. Gather supporting documents to close all outstanding advances before the end of the month.

  • Process mobile phone transactions and/or coordinate payments with Hawalas when in place. Collect and file confirmations of receipt from final beneficiaries.

 

  • Record daily transactions in bank books and EXCEL cash books. Assign account codes and standardized analysis codes to allow direct import into SUNSYSTEM. Assign documentation cross-reference with Excel to make it easily retrievable.  Submit books and documents to Finance Manager on time for month-end review.

 

  • Adhere to cash management security protocols. Physically store the cash register, checkbooks and documentation in a locked place. Perform cash counts in the presence of witnesses and bank reconciliations according to schedule.

 

  • Assist in maintaining a secure filing system for financial documentation. Perform the translation, photocopying and scanning work of the finance department. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

 

Profile Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or any other equivalent field;
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Having experience in NGOs would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of accounting;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Good knowledge of written and oral French and English;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
