JOB SUMMARY:

The function of the MHPSS supervisor is to support the MHPSS coordination in the implementation, follow-up, monitoring and coaching of activities related to the various MHPSS aspects of the different IMC projects.

  1. Essential Job duties/Scope of work

Under the supervision of the MHPSS Manager/Coordinator, and in accordance with national and international guidelines on best practice in mental health and psychosocial support, the role of the MHPSS Supervisor will be to:

  1. Support MHPSS coordination in the design of MHPSS activities and MHPSS aspects of IMC.
  2. In collaboration and harmonization with the CP and GBV supervisors, plan and adapt relevant, multi-sectoral content for beneficiaries.




 

  1. Ensure the implementation and supervision of MHPSS interventions in the field at the various sites, including guidance on the roles and activities of social workers.
  2. Organize and facilitate weekly team meetings to support and strengthen the administrative, technical and interpersonal skills of MHPSS workers, including remote supervision via WhatsApp.
  3. Ensure collaboration and involvement of committee and traditional leaders to support community ownership and sustainability of activities.
  4. Contribute to the drafting of TORs, and ensure proper monitoring of MHPSS activities, including weekly and monthly reports, database and procurement plan
  5. Participate in training and capacity building for staff and beneficiaries.
  6. Participate in weekly and monthly meetings in which the MHPSS program is involved, with or in representation of the MHPSS coordination, including protection case management meetings, camp management meetings, etc.
  7. Set up and plan the themes of psycho-educational activities to raise community awareness, based on information provided by community relays and social workers.
  8. Carry out any other important activities requested by his/her superiors, within the limits of his/her capacities and rights.
  9. QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in clinical or child psychology, or at least psychology. If not, a degree in social sciences, with proven experience in mental health in a humanitarian context and for a similar position.
  • Minimum knowledge of internationally recommended intervention guides for the deployment of MHPSS activities
  • Mastery of the basics of at least two psychotherapy techniques, including one individual and one group technique
  • At least 3 years’ experience in MHPSS interventions in the health sector, and with children, women and families.
  • Cameroonian nationality;
  • Minimum knowledge of humanitarian intervention principles
  • Relatively good knowledge of computer tools and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and for long hours in low-resource environments; in a multi-ethnic environment;
  • Interest in continuous learning and professional development;
  • A minimum knowledge of written or spoken English would be a plus
  • Experience of working with a non-governmental organization and/or with refugees is an advantage;

TRAINING / CAPACITY BUILDING:

  • Advocate and plan for professional development for yourself, and any staff supervised by you.
  • Provide input to, and deliver, where applicable, training for national staff to increase their responsibilities in order to build capacity, and ensure sustainability of programs.
  • Security:
  • Ensure the application of, and compliance with, security protocols and policies of you and your supervised staff.
  • Compliance & Ethics:
  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.
  • Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.
  • Communicates these standards to staff, if applicable, and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values.

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps
