Role and Responsibilities:
As a Database Administrator at Afriland First Bank, you will take a lead role in managing our multi-platform database environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless operation of our financial systems. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Informix database systems.
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining database structures, tables, indexes, and views.
- Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing query execution.
- Implementing and enforcing security measures to protect sensitive financial data.
- Ensuring data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery through regular backups and replication.
- Collaborating with application developers to optimize database performance for applications.
- Planning and executing database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
- Troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues in a timely manner.
- Documenting database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably in a financial institution or related industry.
- Expertise in managing PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Informix database systems.
- Proficiency in SQL and query optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, data modeling, and indexing.
- Knowledge of database security best practices and data privacy regulations.
- Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database performance issues.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies in a financial environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team.
Preferred:
- Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), PostgreSQL Certified Professional, etc.
- Experience with high-availability and replication solutions.
- Exposure to database automation and scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, PowerShell).
- Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Oracle Cloud).
- Knowledge of compliance standards relevant to financial institutions (e.g., PCI DSS, SOX).
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts.
