WHAT DO WE DO

SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international NGO independent of all political, economic, ethnic and religious groups created in 1980 with headquarters in Paris, France. For more than 40 years, it has been helping people affected by conflict and violence, epidemics, natural/climatic disasters and economic collapse. Its mission is to help those whose safety, health and lives are threatened, by covering their basic needs (drinking, eating and shelter) and strengthening their resilience capacities. The IS teams, made up of nearly 2,486 people, including expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters and some volunteers, are present in around 22 countries around the world, including Chad and Cameroon.

THE MISSION: TCHAMEROUN

Solidarités International opened the Cameroon mission in 2014 to urgently respond to the needs of refugees fleeing the conflict in the Central African Republic. Thanks to funding from DFID, ECHO, CDCS and GIZ, between 2014 and 2017, it supported refugee and host populations in the East, the North and Adamawa. The assistance was mainly focused on the areas of Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (development of sources, construction of boreholes, latrines, installation of a drinking water supply network, waste management), Food Security and Means of Existence (support for market gardening and food production, AGR, WITH, etc.) and Shelter.

In 2017, SI is operating in the Far North region of Cameroon where it is carrying out emergency responses as well as longer-term responses in the WASH and SAME areas. Several forms of assistance are provided by SI, particularly in the departments of Mayo-Tsanaga, Mayo-Sava and Logone and Chari. Thus, a multisectoral intervention is launched among vulnerable populations in displaced sites and host villages, via monetary transfers and coupons for food targeting families with children in a situation of malnutrition, emergency responses in the distribution of items non-food, WASH activities (construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, awareness raising, etc.) and emergency shelters for affected populations following the floods of 2019 and 2020.

Solidarités International remains a front-line humanitarian actor in the North of Logone and Chari, which remains one of the areas least covered by humanitarian actors, due to access difficulties linked to insecurity. Since 2020, SI has been part of the emergency response in coordination with RRM actors to cover urgent food security needs through monetary transfers to displaced households, host households and flood victims, in the Logone departments. and Chari, from Mayo Tsanaga and Mayo Sava. With funding from Echo, SI also provides lean food assistance and support for the livelihoods of the most vulnerable host households. In December 2022, the organization benefits from funding from the French Development Agency (AFD) for the implementation of the project entitled “Supporting civil society for the emergence of women and young people in the Far North of Cameroon” of which the simplified title is “EMERGENCE”. The overall objective of this project is to contribute to strengthening the economic and social resilience of the populations of the Far North region of Cameroon. It is within the framework of this project that a pilot activity for the digitalization of Village Savings and Credit Associations, the subject of these terms of reference, is planned. The overall objective of this project is to contribute to strengthening the economic and social resilience of the populations of the Far North region of Cameroon. It is within the framework of this project that a pilot activity for the digitalization of Village Savings and Credit Associations, the subject of these terms of reference, is planned. The overall objective of this project is to contribute to strengthening the economic and social resilience of the populations of the Far North region of Cameroon. It is within the framework of this project that a pilot activity for the digitalization of Village Savings and Credit Associations, the subject of these terms of reference, is planned.
