International Medical Corps is a global, nonprofit humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives and alleviating suffering through healthcare training and relief and development programs. Founded in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, non-political, non-denominational organization. Its mission is to improve quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities around the world. By providing training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to those most at risk, and with the flexibility to respond quickly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates and helps devastated health care systems to become independent again.

 




 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, the Financial Assistant is responsible for cash and check payments in the assigned site office, Eastern Region. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions

A. Essential Job Functions/Scope of Work:

  • Ensure all receipts are stamped and paid
  • Verify the arithmetical accuracy of supplier invoices before paying them.
  • Make cash and check payments using supporting documents approved by all relevant staff and accompanied by all required documents.
  • With the help of the finance manager and the financial director, allocate expenses accordingly.
  • Maintain the Cash Transaction Journal (CTJ).
  • Perform monthly and daily cash reconciliations
  • Perform a daily cash count

 

 

  • Send daily cash report to Yaoundé office
  • Prepare cash requests to submit for cash replenishment.
  • Be sure to photocopy or scan all necessary financial documents, including each check, to attach to the documentation.
  • Maintain a proper and organized filing system for all payments
  • Support the disbursement of monthly salaries of national staff
  • Report cash flow discrepancies
  • Make all payments for out-of-town activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance/Administration Manager.

B. Qualifications/Personal Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in banking, finance or economics
  • Professional experience of 2 years or more
  • Previous experience with NGOs is a major asset.
  • Communication skills: Being bilingual (English and French) is a major asset.
  • Ability to integrate and work within a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural team.

OTHERS:

  • Security :

– Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies;

– Consider the safety implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with other staff, leaders and community volunteers.

 

 

 

  • Compliance and ethics:

– Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics within International Medical Corps. To the extent applicable to the position, the candidate must fully understand and adhere to International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards.

– Performs work with the highest level of integrity.

– Communicate these standards to staff, where applicable, and partners and require them to adhere to these values.

  • Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse:

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

  • Code of Conduct:

In this role, the individual is expected to promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization and maintain a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards , and adhere to these standards.

If this is a supervisory position, the individual must model ethical behavior through their own conduct and supervision of the work of others; ensure that the people reporting to it have sufficient knowledge and resources to follow the standards described in the code of conduct and ethics; monitor the compliance of the people he supervises; apply the International Medical Corps Code of Conduct and Ethics and policies, including the Safeguarding Policy and the Workplace Harassment, Bullying and Sexual Misconduct Policy, consistently and fair; support employees who, in good faith, raise questions or concerns.

  • Backup:
