Recruitment notice: Maintenance Technician
Context :
WCS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1895 with the aim of safeguarding wild species and spaces around the world through scientific research, conservation actions, education and awareness-raising on the values of nature. nature, the training of conservation professionals and the development of numerous management tools in partnership with other organizations in the world of conservation. Through its involvement in more than 350 projects, its presence in more than 60 countries and its contribution to the establishment of nearly 150 protected areas around the globe, WCS has brought together the ecological knowledge, cultural experiences and partnerships necessary to enable the cohabitation between wild species and habitats and local communities and reconciling the conservation of biodiversity and socio-economic development. WCS has been present in Cameroon since 1988 and has contributed to the creation and management of numerous protected areas including the Bouba Ndjidda National Park.
The Bouba Ndjidda National Park was created by Order No. 120/SEDR of December 5, 1968. It covers an area of 220,000 ha in the Northern Region, Department of Mayo Rey and spreads over the districts of Tcholliré, Rey Bouba and Madingring. It is part of the Northern protected area complex with the Bénoué and Faro national parks. It adjoins the Sena-Oura National Park in Chad and forms with the latter the Sena -Bouba-Ndjidda Binational complex and the Benoué National Park of the WCS Paysage Nord Cameroun project.
As part of strengthening its management capabilities, WCS is seeking the services of a Maintenance/Multipurpose Technician.
Objective of the position:
The Maintenance/Multipurpose Technician will provide logistical support for the implementation of the WCS Landscape North Cameroon project in the Benoué, Bouba Ndjidda (Cameroon) and Sena Oura (Chad) National Parks. He/she will be based in Garoua, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment and materials in the various WCS sites (offices, base camps and national parks mentioned above, etc.)
Hierarchical position:
The Maintenance/Multipurpose Technician will have the Logistics Manager as their hierarchical superior.
Main activities
The list is not exhaustive and will evolve according to the priorities of the WCS organization:
Responsibilities:
- Carry out repair/maintenance/construction work within agreed deadlines.
- Ensure the proper functioning and prevent breakdowns/deterioration of WCS equipment/installations/infrastructure, under the supervision of hierarchical and technical managers.
- Ensure the recording and archiving of all documents relating to equipment/installations/infrastructure.
- Carry out all work (construction, repair, etc.) ordered by the hierarchical referent, as well as those that have been identified and validated by the hierarchical referent.
- Ensure regular maintenance of WCS installations/equipment/infrastructure, in particular through a preventive maintenance plan (procedures to follow, schedule, etc.).
- In the event of a malfunction/deterioration, carries out the diagnosis and proposes to the hierarchical and/or technical referent different types of measures to be taken, with an estimate of the costs for each.
- Carry out the work on time, respecting the defined specifications (plans, dimensions, etc.) and the established budget.
- Carry out the necessary tests/checks to validate the proper functioning of the installation/equipment after repair.
- Make proposals for improvement and/or correction of installations/equipment/infrastructure.
- Ensure the proper management, safeguarding and maintenance of work tools, as well as the tidying of the workshop, etc.
- Always ensure that you have the necessary stock of consumables and materials for routine repairs, and ensure their management; transmits orders on time.
- During the execution of the work, ensure the cleanliness and safety of the premises (or even the immediate surroundings).
- If necessary, assist with loading/unloading construction equipment.
- Complete and follow the order book for various works (furniture construction, repair, etc.).
- Keep all documents relating to facilities/equipment/infrastructure in an organized manner, and update them regularly.
- Write precise intervention reports (monitoring sheet, problem, measures taken, etc.).
- Ensure monitoring and history of malfunctions/repairs.
- Ensure the maintenance of equipment (generator, motor pumps, solar system, air conditioning, etc.) following the instructions of the supervisor
- Inform supervisor of equipment issues and report necessary parts to order
- Provide supervision and carry out small works on sites when it is not necessary to contract a service provider
- Regularly check and ensure that security devices are up to date and functioning (fire extinguishers, surveillance cameras, barbed wire, bells, etc.).
- Must be ready to carry out maintenance on other sites of the WCS Paysage Nord Cameroun project in the National Parks of Bouba Ndjidda and Benoué (Cameroon) and Sena Oura (Chad), in WCS offices and residences
- Implement the maintenance plan for generators, motorcycles, water dispensers, air conditioners, electricity, refrigerators, stoves, etc.
- Ensure the archiving of documents related to transport logistics, IT, mechanics, electricity, etc.
- Monitor the WCS automobile fleet and motorized fleet, ensuring that all vehicles and generators comply with maintenance and fueling plans and that documents are updated;
- Monitor project equipment including maintenance, updating databases, monitoring usage and monitoring costs (including the costs of satellite phones).
- Ensure the maintenance and rehabilitation of buildings in conjunction with contractual technicians and other service providers with the support of the Infrastructure Logistician and the Garage Manager.
- Process documents relating to the execution of logistics operations (e.g. electricity, water, internet bills, etc.) take appropriate measures to resolve operational problems by avoiding power cuts, water, internet, etc. and reporting various issues to the supervisor;
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Industrial Technical Baccalaureate or BET (Technician Certificate) in Electrotechnics, Electricity, Automotive Mechanics, Polytechnics, or any other related discipline;
- Have a B or BE driving license;
- Have at least 02 (two) years of professional experience in a similar position;
- Have a good knowledge of the NGO sector and the procedures of donors KFW, European Union etc.;
- Having experience with NGOs would be an asset;
- Applied knowledge of methodologies and tools for monitoring and budgeting and fixed assets, maintenance of energy and IT equipment;
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel software;
- Flexible, autonomous and rigorous in the organization of work;
- Bilingual French/English.
Working conditions
- Position based in Garoua with travel to be planned depending on the request of the Project Director, the Logistics Officer and other sites in the park.
- Paid annual leave
- One-year contract with possibility of renewal based on employee performance evaluation and project context.
- A trial period of three (3) months.
Required skills
Knowledge: practical or theoretical knowledge, techniques or specific procedures (e.g. knowing the rules of hygiene and safety (individual and environmental).
- Fluency in French (read, written, spoken) and fluency in English
- Know how to negotiate and be diplomatic
Know-how: mastered experiences or practices (e.g.: filling out maintenance sheets/plans, reporting breakdowns, evaluation, energy balance, etc.)
Ability to manage preventive and curative maintenance in electricity, mechanics, polytechnics of the project, monitor equipment, write breakdown and/or commissioning reports, equipment decommissioning report, etc. ;
