CALL FOR RESEARCH TRAINEES AT THE DENIS & LENORA FOUNDATION

The Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation works to catalyze Africa’s economic transformation through social entrepreneurship, science and technology, innovation, public health and progressive policies that create opportunity economical for all. Our areas of work include sustainable development, science and innovation, health, leadership, education, entrepreneurship, economics and public policy. The Denis and Lenora Foundation is a non-profit umbrella institution made up of several departments, including the Nkafu Policy Institute, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Center, Communication and Sustainable Development Programs. 

 




 

The Nkafu Policy Institute  is a Cameroonian think tank housed at the Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation. The Institute seeks to advance public policies that help all Africans prosper in free, fair and sustainable economies. It provides independent, thorough and insightful policy recommendations that advance the Cameroonian economy and economies in Africa. The Institute brings together leading analysts, experts and contributors from around the world in the fields of governance and democracy; health and education; peace and security; science and technology; and economic policy. Our reputation is based on independence, rigor and innovation.

The Nkafu Policy Institute is currently seeking  four (4)   highly motivated  interns to join the Nkafu team to promote and advance our work. The positions are based at our headquarters in Yaoundé-Cameroon. We target outstanding recent graduates who want to gain hands-on experience in research, policy analysis, event planning and project management.

With guidance from senior colleagues and supervisors, recruited interns are expected to perform various activities ranging from research work, compilation of statistical data and preparation of draft reports, administrative duties, event attendance and project management .

 



 

The Economic Policy Division:   The Economic Affairs Section of the Nkafu Policy Institute explores how free market systems can help solve a range of economic problems in Africa and Cameroon in particular. The economic policy division is currently looking for 01   (one)  intern.?

The Education and Health Division:   The Education and Health Policy Division of the Nkafu Policy Institute focuses on research and evidence-based approaches to address key health policy challenges , education and development. The Education Department and Health Division is currently looking for 01   (one)  intern.

The Peace and Security Division:   helps formalize, train and upgrade entrepreneurs so they can grow their businesses. The SBEC department is currently looking for 01  (one)  intern. 

The Democracy and Governance Division:   ? Effective states and institutions are very crucial for peaceful and productive societies. The Democracy and Governance department is currently looking for 01   (one)  intern.

 




 

Main tasks 

  • Participate in a wide range of activities that support policy advancement at the regional or national level, such as organizing and communicating research, seminars, conferences and workshops.
  • Assist Research Fellows and Institute staff with program-related projects, research and development, including participation in the planning and coordination of activities/events.
  • Perform assigned research tasks, such as conducting literature reviews; find, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data. 
  • Prepare memos, concept notes, presentations, briefs, reports and presentations.
  • Other administrative duties assigned by departmental staff or management.

Skills and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

At least a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

  • Governance and Democracy,
  • Peace and Security Studies, 
  • Development studies, gender studies
  • Social and economic sciences, 
  • Public health

  • Strong writing and research skills; must be able to distill relevant information from large datasets, reports, articles and academic papers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • Mastery of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…).
  • Be a good communicator and a team player.
  • Be able to multi-task, be extremely organized and have meticulous attention to detail.
  • Desire to learn, take initiative and suggest best practices with a willingness to take and implement constructive feedback and advice.

What we offer

We offer three (3) months of full-time internship with leading experts and scholars, where you will work on a wide range of topics. We also offer a transportation allowance, in-house training and unlimited internet access. Our interns have full access to research seminars, roundtables, workshops and discussion groups organized by the Nkafu Policy Institute and its partners, in addition to lectures on a wide range of emerging issues critical to business and political interests in Cameroon and in Africa in general.

Requirement  ?

We require each intern to have a laptop at the start of their internship.

NB:   All interns must specify which divisions they are applying to in their application form. Any interns who do not specify which division they are applying to – economics, health, democracy and governance, and peace and security or SBEC – will not be selected for an interview.
