APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF NURSE
IMC (International Medical Corps) Cameroon is seeking
two (2) Nurses for the needs of its support program for Nigerian refugees and host populations settled in the Far North region.

JOB SUMMARY
The nurse will strive to contribute to improving the general health status of the
target population by providing quality health care (curative and preventive care).




The incumbent of this position is required to triage patients, ensure smooth patient flow,
provide clinical care, assist with patient referrals as required, and provide
health education and hygiene promotion. In addition, the nurse may be required
to assist health care personnel in other areas as required.
To successfully perform this job, the individual must be able to perform each
essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.
A. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Provide clinical nursing services in accordance with
internationally recognized standards.
 Assist clinical physicians, and collaborate with midwives, laboratories,
immunization services and pharmacy in performing general duties
as assigned by the supervisor.
 Manage triage, take vital signs and organize patients for consultation.
 Perform vaccinations of children and pregnant women.

 Perform dressings, sutures of deep wounds, etc.
 Provide nursing care to patients as per
physician’s guidelines & instructions if working in an inpatient ward and perform duties
as per protocols.
 Ensure proper data management by completing patient charts, registers
, tally sheets and reports.
 Assist in conducting laboratory and other tests available and
accessible to patients.
 Provide health education and hygiene promotion to patients based
on their diagnosis and comorbidities, including
diet, activity, hygiene and disease prevention (such as
need for vaccinations, suggesting lifestyle changes, etc.)
 Assist in physical examination of patients regarding sexual and reproductive health, including




especially for a male health care provider, whenever
requested.
 Ensure that relevant patients, including children under five years of age,
are screened for malnutrition or provide malnutrition services
if trained and assigned responsibilities by the supervisor
.
 Work with the supervisor to provide didactic and on-the-job training
to build capacity and improve the skills of other staff
such as CHWs and auxiliary nurses.
 Collaborate with other departments, as necessary, to ensure smooth implementation and
integration of services.
 Adhere to administrative guidelines regarding working hours,
record keeping, patient communications, confidentiality,

replenishment of essential medicines, consumables and other
medical supplies.
 Perform additional duties as assigned, including triage,
critical care, child protection focal point, distribution and/or
data management, as required.
 Assist with the setup, maintenance and mobilization of clinical spaces, as required
.
 The duties and responsibilities listed are representative of the nature and level
of work assigned and are not necessarily exhaustive. The time-sensitive nature of
the CGI’s work requires staff to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape;
tasks may be reconfigured to meet operational requirements.

B. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 Qualified nurse who is a graduate of a government recognized nursing training institute
and holds a valid practice license or




similar qualification required in the country for the position.
 Previous experience in the same function will be an asset.
 Previous experience in an NGO is preferred.
 Good communication skills, both oral and written.
 Extremely flexible and able to cope with stressful and frustrating situations.
 Ability to build rapport with staff and motivate them effectively.
 Good decision-making skills
 Must work independently under difficult conditions.
 Ability to take on non-medical responsibilities from time to time to
replace other team members.
 Good reading and writing skills in English.
 Fluency in the national and local spoken language.
