Summary:
The U.S. Mission in Cameroon is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Administrative Assistant position in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Duties

 

The incumbent serves as the Executive Administrative Specialist to the Country Director, and the Deputy Country Director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Cameroon. Incumbent also supports two senior staff: the DGHP Program Director, and the Associate Director for Programs and Science. Duties include executive administrative management; administrative liaison with external partners, program coordination and support; managing communication and correspondences for the Country Director; maintaining official documents; planning and coordinating logistics; scheduling events and maintaining meeting calendars for the Country Director and program director.  Liaises regularly with the Embassy Front office, senior officials from the Government of Cameroon, executive offices of other USG agencies, and leadership of international organizations and implementing partners on behalf of the Country Director. Provides program support to the science office and assists the Associate Director for Science in coordinating and managing development, review, and clearance of scientific products for CDC Cameroon.

The incumbent is supervised by the Deputy Country Director.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

    • Security Certificate; or




    • Public Trust – background investigation Security Clearance.

Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Language Studies, Business Studies, Human Resources Management, or Public Administration is required.

Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of four (04) years of progressive work experience in administrative, secretarial, or program support in an international organization or large local institution is required.

Language: 

    • Fluent (speaking, reading, writing) in English.
    • Good Working Knowledge (speaking, reading, writing) in French.

This may be tested.

Job Knowledge: The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of executive level administrative and office management processes.  In addition, the job holder must have thorough understanding of CDC and US Government administrative policies and procedures, protocol and the structure and functions of CDC Cameroon.  The incumbent must also have extensive knowledge of the Government of Cameroon operating environment as well as the Cameroonian business environment to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. The incumbent for this position should be knowledgeable about computer systems, telecommunications equipment. The incumbent will utilize independent thinking for changing and improving current operating procedures.  The job holder is also expected to use his/her judgement in recommending and incorporating these improved methods or procedures.

Skills And Abilities: Demonstrates high level of professionalism and maintains strict confidentiality in performance of duties. Job holder is expected to perform work with minimal supervision and is required to exercise independent judgment, diplomatic skills, and demonstrate strong customer service during their work. Project management skills, including attention to details, being proactive in execution of duties, and ability to address issues with a solution-oriented focus are requirements of the position. Excellent inter-personal, organization and coordination skills, which are required for engagement with host government and diplomatic officials, USG personnel and CDC implementing partners. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in managing a wide range of tasks, be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and handling of sensitive documents. Intermediate user level of word processing and spreadsheets. Job holder is responsible for drafting official correspondence on behalf of CDC Country Director and CDC Cameroon office.  Also responsible for official meeting notes.  Both speed and accuracy are important and typing skills are needed.

The U.S. Mission offers a competitive compensation and benefits package for local employees.

SALARY: The annual gross salary includes: the Basic Rate, the Miscellaneous Benefits Allowance, and the End-of-the-Year Bonus. Seniority Allowance is paid in accordance with local labor law. A Cashier allowance is paid for eligible positions.

MEDICAL BENEFITS: The U.S. Mission in Yaoundé directly reimburse eligible employees for covered medical expenses incurred for them and/or eligible dependents, subject to the stated limits of the Local Compensation Plan.

LEAVE BENEFITS: Subject to the stated limits and rules of the Local Compensation Plan, employees are entitled to the following types of leaves: Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Maternity Leave, Special Leave.

HOLIDAYS: The U.S. Mission in Yaoundé and the Embassy Branch Office in Douala observe American and Cameroonian public holidays, about 19 holidays per year.

The medical clearance is covered by the U.S. Embassy, and will be completed by the applicant separately, during the security certification process.

Once HR Office receives the medical clearance and the security certification, the applicant will receive a Formal Offer with an agreed start date.
