AAI is pleased to announce the launch of the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) Young Professional Programme on Climate Finance. This program, hosted in Lome by Sustainable Solutions for Africa (SSA) and funded by USAID, aims to engage graduates, postgraduates, and early-career young professionals from all African countries in the critical field of climate finance
The Young Professional Programme on Climate Finance offers a unique opportunity for graduates, postgraduates, and early-career young professionals from all African countries to actively engage in the crucial field of climate finance. Hosted in Lome by Sustainable Solutions for Africa, the program is designed to provide participants with practical experience, exposure to cutting-edge projects, and the chance to contribute to climate change adaptation efforts across the African continent.
About Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI)
As the leading Africa-led adaptation initiative created in response to a mandate by African Heads of State at the 25th African Union Summit in June 2015. The AAI’s overall purpose is to enhance concrete adaptation action and address loss and damage on the Continent in the context of the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the African Union’s (AU’s) 2063 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Aim and Benefits of AAI Young Professional Programme on Climate Finance
- The Youth Professional programme will support advancing Africa adaptation implementation agenda by increasing the continent’s capacity to successfully mobilize and utilize climate finance.
- Successful candidates will closely collaborate with the SSA team and serve as a Technical Partner for AAI. As part of the program, participants will also have the opportunity to engage with the AAI Adaptation Finance Academy, gaining exposure to real-world climate finance projects.
Requirements for AAI Young Professional Programme on Climate Finance Qualification
- Applicants must be graduates, postgraduates, or early-career professionals from any African country.
- Demonstrated interest or background in climate finance, adaptation, or related fields.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Passion for contributing to climate change solutions in Africa.
Interview date, Process and Venue for AAI Young Professional Programme on Climate Finance
Timeline:
- Application Period: February 15th, 2024, to March 14th, 2024.
- Announcement of Successful Candidates: April 05, 2024.
- Program Start Date: May 1, 2024, in Lome.

- A cover letter expressing motivation and interest in the program (maximum 1 page).
- Two letters of recommendation.
