Introduction

1. Background

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private and independent humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in around 30 countries around the world. It is the first Danish NGO operating internationally for the protection of refugees and internally displaced persons against persecution and for the promotion of durable solutions to the problems of forced immigration and conflicts. All of DRC’s action is based on humanitarian principles and human rights, in accordance with United Nations conventions and the code of conduct of the ICRC and NGOs during disaster relief operations. The approach to protecting and assisting populations affected by conflict is provided in a long-term and rights-based approach to ensure a coherent and effective response to the challenges of today’s conflicts. The assistance consists of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation, support for returnees and repatriates as well as the promotion of long-term solutions to displacement and its causes. In addition, supporting and building the capacity of local and national authorities is an integral part of DRC’s work.

Currently, the actions carried out by DRC in the Adamaoua region are concentrated in the Mbéré department (communes of Meiganga, Djohong, Ngaoui) and are piloted from the DRC base in Meiganga and its sub-base in Djohong. DRC also intervenes in the Eastern region, department of Lom-et-Djérem (municipalities of Garoua-Boulaï and Bétaré Oya).

 

 

 

2. Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader Garoua-Boulaï / Meiganga / Djohong Program, the Agricultural Recovery Assistant is responsible for the direct implementation of the project(s) activities related to his technical area. and monitoring them.

3. Tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of the project in accordance with the established plans;
  • Participate in the process of defining vulnerability criteria with communities, setting up targeting committees, identifying and selecting beneficiaries
  • Set up Farmer Field Schools (CEP), train the members of agricultural groups on the approach, themes and identified technical itineraries;
  • Monitor agricultural campaigns, accompany and support farmers in their practices, the difficulties they encounter and in the search for solutions;
  • Promote and disseminate agroecological techniques and sustainable management of natural resources;
  • Ensure good collaboration with the MINADER/Head of agricultural post and carry out training, supervision and joint visits;
  • Promote the participation of all population groups in the project, including beneficiaries, non-beneficiaries, local authorities, local leaders, young people, women and groups with specific needs;
  • Participate in the development of the community network and strengthen the relationship group-WITH-agricultural, commercial institutions and micro-credit agency
  • Accompany the coaches in the follow-up of the beneficiaries and contribute to the reinforcement of their capacities
  • Strengthen the capacities of producers and support them in structuring into groups/FOs/cooperatives, their integration into agricultural sectors
  • Participate in updating the monitoring tools and databases, collect and transmit all the information necessary for monitoring the project to the Program team leaders;
  • Contribute to the various surveys and evaluations carried out under the program (including market monitoring);
  • Prepare and implement all activities relating to the information of beneficiaries and stakeholders;
  • Write or contribute to the writing of reports requested by the Team Leader Program;
  • Support the project management team in organizing supervision visits of national and regional coordination teams, etc.
  • Support at the request of the N+1 and/or N+2, socio-economic operational themes, any other relevant task assigned by the supervisor.

Contribute to strengthening links and coordination between protection teams and ECREC in the operational aspects of the project.

4. Qualifications required

  • Higher technician diploma in agriculture, agro-economics, rural development, or technical professional trainer in the field, or any other equivalent diploma in a relevant field;
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word software;
  • Ability to conduct a survey via a tablet
  • Motorcycle driving license (A) would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of the area of ​​intervention;
  • Advanced command of French;
  • Proficiency in the local language.
  • Ability to transmit skills through theoretical and practical training in an efficient, clear and precise manner
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in an NGO, preferably international;
  • Two (2) years of work experience in agriculture/rural development programs;
  • Experience in training, technical advice and supervision of farmers.

5. General regulations

  • Employee must follow DRC’s security, confidentiality and ethical guidelines, including Code of Conduct and Humanitarian Accountability Framework
  • The employee must not engage in any other remunerated activity during the term of the DRC contract without prior authorization
  • The employee must not engage in any activity that could harm DRC or the implementation of any project during the term of the DRC contract
  • Employee shall not give media interviews or post photos related to DRC programs or share other material without receiving prior permission
  • The employee must return all equipment loaned by DRC to perform the work after the end of the contract period or upon request by DRC.
