La Route Des Chefferies (DRC) is a cultural, tourism and economic development program
that focuses on the preservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage of West Cameroon and
other regions of Cameroon. As an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO)
accredited by the OIF since 2018, its mission is to:
Highlight Cameroon’s cultural heritage;
Strengthen intercultural dialogue;
Unite local heritage and tourism stakeholders;
Promote and support research activities.
La Route Des Chefferies is pursuing a 2020-2025 development plan for the implementation of several
activities in Cameroon and abroad. As part of the development of its activities, the DRC is setting up
a training center for professions in heritage and cultural and creative industries
(ICC) called the Professional Training Center-Heritage and Cultural and Creative Industries (CEFOPICC). This center is attached to the Cité Internationale du Patrimoine and includes an incubator for cultural projects whose administrative formalization is currently underway. Cultural entrepreneurship is a form of economic activity that aims to create, produce, distribute or promote local cultural, artistic or creative goods and services. It contributes to the economic and social dynamism of territories, particularly rural or peri-urban areas, by meeting the needs and expectations of communities, promoting cultural diversity, stimulating innovation and creating jobs.
Cultural entrepreneurship, however, has specific features that distinguish it from other forms of entrepreneurship, such as uncertainty related to the quality and demand for cultural productions, high initial costs, difficulty in measuring social impact, or the need to reconcile artistic logic and economic logic. It therefore requires skills, tools and adapted financing methods, as well as cooperation between cultural actors, support structures , decentralization actors, local authorities and private partners. It is within this framework that the initiative to develop cultural entrepreneurship is being launched in all ten regions of Cameroon, which will consist in particular of: – Selecting and training 300 cultural project leaders; on the themes ( entrepreneurial initiative, and setting up a cultural project)
– Select 100 best projects and train 100 leaders on the following themes
(Business Model-Business plan)
– Select, Incubate, and support 50 best cultural project ideas in
business creation;
(Training and support in finding funding, project maturation and
mentoring, Training in management and taxation of cultural businesses)
