The Cameroon Association for Social Marketing (ACMS) is seeking candidates (M/F) to fill the position of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Specialist based in Garoua.
Who are we recruiting?
The Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Specialist will play a critical role in strengthening health systems and service delivery mechanisms to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV and ensure comprehensive pediatric care. This role involves providing technical assistance to health care providers, supporting the implementation of prevention of mother-to-child transmission programs, and ensuring compliance with national and international guidelines. The specialist will also oversee the integration of HIV prevention, treatment, and care services into maternal and child health (MCH) platforms.
Essential Functions:
Provide guidance and technical support for the establishment and operationalization of one-stop service delivery models in PMTCT sites.
Ensure that the one-stop shop model integrates comprehensive maternal and child health services with HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
Monitor the implementation of the one-stop shop model, using data on service utilization, client satisfaction, and health outcomes to assess the model’s effectiveness.
Develop and facilitate the implementation of protocols for routine HIV education, counseling, testing, and retesting for all pregnant women at the facility and community levels.
Engage community health workers and local organizations to expand HIV education, counseling, and testing services to hard-to-reach communities for women who do not have access to facility-based services. – Ensure that all HIV-positive pregnant and breastfeeding women are promptly linked to treatment and care services.
Oversee the integration of HIV prevention services into antenatal care clinics, targeting adolescent girls and young women.
Ensure that adolescent girls and young women receive a comprehensive package of HIV prevention measures, including education, risk assessment, and prevention commodities.
Facilitate the integration of dual HIV and syphilis testing into routine antenatal care services.
Train and support health care providers on dual testing and management of coinfections to support dual elimination of HIV and syphilis. – Support the expansion of partner testing initiatives, ensuring that all partners of HIV-positive pregnant women are offered HIV testing services.
Promote index testing for HIV-positive pregnant women, ensuring that sexual partners and biological children are tested and linked to care services if necessary.
Work with community-based organizations to provide ongoing follow-up and support to partners and family members identified through ICT. – Advocate for and support the availability of optimized antiretroviral treatment for all HIV-positive pregnant and breastfeeding women and children.
Develop and implement cohort monitoring systems to track the health status of mother-baby pairs.
Support health care providers with regular follow-up through phone calls and other communication methods to monitor adherence to treatment and services for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children, and identify challenges.
Establish and support a mentor mother program in which pregnant and breastfeeding women newly identified as HIV-positive are paired with experienced mentor mothers.
Ensure mentor mothers provide adherence support, counseling, and follow-up to their peers during the first six months of care, support mother-baby pair follow-up and early identification of challenges.
Establish a structured follow-up system for women with high viral loads, including the establishment of specialized viremia management clinics.
Facilitate the implementation of home visits, phone calls, and other outreach activities to ensure that HIV-positive women receive appropriate and timely care.
Oversee the active search and re-engagement of HIV-exposed infants lost to follow-up and facilitate their enrollment into care.
Collaborate with community-based organizations to identify and enroll orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in appropriate support programs. – Lead and participate in Early Infant Diagnosis (IPD) quality improvement meetings and collaborations.
Identify gaps in early infant diagnosis services and collaborate with stakeholders to implement solutions to improve the quality and coverage of early infant diagnosis.
Provide technical assistance for the establishment, operationalization, and expansion of pediatric centers of excellence.
Ensure that pediatric centers of excellence are equipped to provide comprehensive care and treatment to HIV-positive children and adolescents.
Required Qualifications and Work Experience
Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, or any other related field.
At least three years of experience in the field of prevention of mother-to-child transmission and pediatric HIV care.
In-depth knowledge of HIV treatment and prevention protocols.
Fluent in French and a working knowledge of English.
