Call for Applications for the Recruitment of Active Members of the General Assembly of the NGO “AFFIRMATIVE ACTION”, abbreviated
“ACT”
I. Brief Knowledge of ACT
Creation, territorial competence, duration, headquarters and vision: Governed by Law No. 053/90 of December 19, 1990 on freedom of association in Cameroon and by Law No. 99/014 of December 22, 1999 governing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Cameroon, and by its status as an NGO recognized by Order No. 000058/A/MINAT/SG/DAP/SDLP/SONG/BA, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION (ACT) works, under its statutes, for the promotion and defense of human rights and the right to health of marginalized or vulnerable social groups.
Non-profit, apolitical, non-denominational and created for an unlimited duration, ACT operates throughout the national territory and its head office is located in Yaoundé. ACT’s vision is to work towards “a united and inclusive society where people are empowered, resilient and have equitable access to health, basic social services and development.”
Corporate purpose: In accordance with the provisions of Article 3 of its statutes, ACT’s corporate purpose is to:
1. Promote respect for human rights, particularly but not exclusively, in the field of health;
2. Combat injustices that affect access to quality health services for the most vulnerable;
3. Combat gender-related inequalities that affect the health of mother-child couples, adolescents and other vulnerable groups;
4. Empower grassroots communities to take charge of their own health problems;
5. Equipping disadvantaged communities with the skills needed to develop their resilience to climate and environmental challenges.
II. Roles and Responsibilities of ACT Members
Every member of ACT has roles and responsibilities regarding:
1. Strategic Governance (the election of members of the Board of Directors (BoD) if the end of the term is noted, the approval of the reports of the Board and the Executive Management on the activity of the organization during the past period, and the approval of the minutes of the last General Assembly (GA));
2. Financial Supervision (the setting of membership fees, the adoption of the budget for the current year);
3. Legal and Ethical Responsibility (the approval of the external audit report if available, as well as the treasury reports and the internal audit of accounts control);
4. Representation, Advocacy and Development of ACT (participation in fundraising and other activities with partners, donors and/or authorities, as well as in activities to strengthen the visibility of the organization); 5. Participation in Meetings (upon convocation by the Chairman of the Board (PCA), ACT members meet once a year in an ordinary General Meeting. They may hold an extraordinary meeting whenever the interest of ACT requires it upon convocation by the PCA or at the request of two-thirds (2/3) of the members. Depending on the circumstances, these meetings are held in person or virtually). III. Desired Profile
of Candidates
As part of the Institutional Development and Organizational Strengthening (DIRO) underway at ACT, the organization wishes, without discrimination or stigmatization, to recruit active members who meet the specific skills and experiences which include:
1. Being a person committed to the social purpose of the organization;
2. Have experience in non-profit governance;
3. Have skills in financial and legal management, human rights, social sciences, humanities, public health, communication, educational sciences, fundraising, advocacy, human resources, psychology, governance, management, etc.;
4. Master the local, regional or international context of human rights and health;
5. Have personal qualities such as commitment to human rights, integrity, ethics, team spirit, strategic thinking, availability, objectivity and sense of responsibility;
6. Diversity and inclusion to encourage the application of people from diverse backgrounds in terms of gender, age, religion, ethnic origin, professional experience, cultural identity including working language French or English etc.), in order to guarantee a rich and relevant representation within the ACT GA.
IV. Application and Selection Process
The composition of the application file: The application file includes:
– A written request for membership addressed to the President of the organization which briefly sets out the candidate’s motivations, relevant skills and vision for the organization, his email address and WhatsApp telephone contact
– A brief curriculum vitae of 02 pages maximum
– A signed document committing to respect the texts of ACT.
The format for submitting applications and the submission deadline: The application file must be submitted no later than May 21, 2025 at midnight, to the email address: secretariat@affirmativeact.org
The selection process: The day after the deadline for submitting applications, a college of members of the Board, assisted by the Executive Director or his representative, will examine the applications received, in light of the objective criteria defined in these terms of reference.
Information for selected members: Successful candidates will be informed by Email and WhatsApp, as soon as the deliberations are completed. Their participation in the next AGM scheduled for the end of May 2025, will be subject to the payment of the applicable membership fees which amount to twenty-five thousand CFA francs (25,000 CFA francs).
V. Additional Information
Membership period: Successful members undertake to join the organization for an indefinite period, except for breaches and other situations provided for by the texts in force at ACT.
Remuneration: Membership of ACT, which is a non-profit organization, is voluntary. However, the provisions of the texts in force in the organization provide for reimbursement of certain expenses.
