CLIFF-GRADS Fellowship Programme (Up to $14,000 USD) 2023
The Climate, Food and Farming, Global Research Alliance Development Scholarships (CLIFF-GRADS) Programme is a joint initiative of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and Mitigate Plus. CLIFF-GRADS builds capability in early-career scientists from developing countries to conduct applied research in agriculture greenhouse gas emissions quantification and mitigation.
Successful applicants to the CLIFF-GRADS programme will go on short term (4-6 month) research stays at a host institution and will:
- Gain experience in the measurement, modelling and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, or carbon storage in agricultural systems relevant to developing countries;
- Build networks and experience other cultures; and
- Gain access to equipment and methodologies used by other institutions.
About Global Research Alliance (GRA)
The GRA Charter provides a framework for voluntary action to increase cooperation and investment in research activities to help reduce the emissions intensity of agricultural production systems and increase their potential for soil carbon sequestration, and improve their efficiency, productivity, resilience and adaptive capacity, thereby contributing in a sustainable way to overall mitigation efforts, while still helping meet food security objectives. The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases brings countries together to find ways to grow more food without grow.

Aim and Benefits of GRA CLIFF-GRADS Fellowship Programme
- Grants of $14,000 USD will be awarded to PhD students from developing countries for research stays that will be completed before the end of 2024.
Requirements for GRA CLIFF-GRADS Fellowship Programme Qualification
- They invite PhD students who meet the following criteria to apply:
- From developing countries;
- Undertaking their PhD in a University in a developing country; and
- Who have not previously been awarded a CLIFF-GRADS grant.
- Preference will be given to students applying for opportunities outside their home country/ country of study to encourage the building of global networks and connections through this programme.
Interview date, Process and Venue for GRA CLIFF-GRADS Fellowship Programme
CLIFF-GRADS research stays are expected to be a minimum of 4 months and a maximum of 6 months. Students and research supervisors are welcome to extend the stay by mutual agreement if additional funding is available to support a longer stay.
