I – PRESENTATION OF THE POSITION

Based in Yaoundé (Cameroon) since 1995, the AUF – Central Africa and Great Lakes regional office manages a network of 116 university establishments in 11 countries (Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Uganda, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Chad, Zimbabwe).

It has seven (7) national offices: in Burundi (Bujumbura), Cameroon (Yaoundé), Congo (Brazzaville), Gabon (Libreville), Central African Republic (Bangui), Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa) and Chad (N’Djamena).
Under the authority of the regional director, the communications officer implements the AUF’s communications policy at the regional level and ensures its promotion to the various audiences (member institutions, universities, public and private partners, the general public and the press) in the Central Africa and Great Lakes region. He/she works across all areas: event communications, crisis communications, public relations, press relations, audiovisual and multimedia. The communications officer also ensures the implementation of one or more projects as part of the AUF strategy within the regional management – AUF Central Africa and Great Lakes.




II. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop communications actions aimed at various audiences in line with the AUF strategy
    Apply within the regional management and its locations the institutional communications of the AUF in relation with the department – communications

    Participate in the development and deployment of the internal and external communication strategy for the Central Africa and Great Lakes region
    Synthesize and popularize information relating to the actions proposed by the AUF or its partners, by choosing the appropriate means of dissemination and targeting the relevant interlocutors
    Write the region’s communication documents: press releases, articles for the website, newsletters, brochures, activity reports, electronic information bulletins, etc.
    Establish a communication plan, design and coordinate communication tools and the production of promotional items




    Manage and run websites and social networks
    Ensure the visibility of the AUF during events
    Run and update the various external and internal communication platforms at the regional management
    Design, budget and implement communication campaigns
    Ensure relations with the press: develop a media plan, organize meetings with journalists and press conferences, write press releases, monitor and develop press reviews, monitor partnership projects with the regional press
    Contribute to the organization of activities to promote the Francophonie in the region

    Coordinate the updating of the intranet and manage the regional contact database (mailing list, heads of member institutions, partners, researchers, companies, etc.)
    Act as a correspondent for communication with the internal communication network and the department – communication




III – QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education

    University degree in communication or any other relevant field related to the position

Experience

    At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar position
    Experience in an international, multi-site and multicultural context, an asset
    Experience and/or proven interest in international cooperation and development, an asset

Skills

    Knowledge of internal and external communication rules and techniques
    Knowledge of French-speaking educational contexts

    Knowledge of design, coordination and production of files and press releases
    Knowledge of administration interfaces and graphic retouching (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
    Knowledge of project development, management and monitoring
    Ability to administer various social platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)
    Mastery of communication and office automation tools
    Mastery of written and spoken French
    Demonstrate initiative, creativity, curiosity and dynamism
    Analytical, synthesis and writing skills
    Adaptability, interpersonal skills and a sense of teamwork
    Rigor, responsiveness, responsibility and autonomy




IV – CONDITIONS

    Location of assignment: Yaoundé, Cameroon
    Type of contract: Fixed-term contract of two (2) years, with the possibility of renewal
    Start date: As soon as possible

Candidates who do not have Cameroonian nationality or residence must hold a valid work permit.
