Action Against Hunger works in crisis and post-crisis areas of Cameroon. ACF is a key player in responding to the humanitarian needs of crisis-affected populations and is a central player in the development of national strategies to combat food insecurity.

We implement nutrition-health projects (support for health centers and mobile clinics when necessary), SMSP projects integrated into our other activities, SAME projects and water and sanitation activities.

We implement emergency projects and multi-annual resilience projects, some of which are regional (Resilac in the Lake Chad Basin) or cross-border (Cameroon, CAR).

The Country Office has very good relations with local authorities and NGO, INGO, UN and donor partners.

We are looking for our new Country Director based in Yaoundé.

Your position and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Regional Director of Operations – Central Africa, as Country Director in Cameroon, your missions will be to:

Ensure the updating and implementation of the country strategy
Lead the coordination team and the country team to ensure a good working atmosphere and positive collaboration within ACF teams and with partners
Manage 10 people directly and a total team of 150 people
Secure, consolidate and identify adequate funding for ongoing and future programs
Ensure the implementation of projects in accordance with plans and at a quality level consistent with ACF requirements in terms of technical quality and MEAL, gender and protection
Promote innovative programmatic approaches in the various ACF activity sectors
Ensure the implementation of accountability and community participation mechanisms
Ensure that the mission maintains an adequate level of emergency response and has a proactive approach to accessing the most vulnerable populations
Ensure the development and implementation of an advocacy strategy for the mission, aimed at promoting programs and improving the political framework in which they are located while being in line with ACF’s priorities
Ensure the implementation of ACF’s new management and administration tools
Ensure team safety: manage the regular updating and implementation of the safety plan in accordance with ACF standards and procedures
When you take up your position, your priorities will be:

Define the Country Office’s programmatic plan for the year 2026
Developing Fundraising for 2026

Your profile
You hold a Master’s degree (Bac+5) in development project management, social action or humanitarian action, international relations or political science.

You have at least 6 years of successful professional experience in coordinating development or humanitarian activities in a complex environment, with a security component.

You have already successfully supervised multicultural technical teams and managed humanitarian and/or development operations in a similar context. Experience in Central Africa and/or experience with ACF are a plus.

You are capable of leadership, adaptation and innovation, with a sense of diplomacy.

You are fluent in French and English, both spoken and written.

Your conditions of employment
Vaccination against Mpox is recommended for employees traveling to this country .

Fixed-term contract under French law: 24 months
Gross monthly salary: from €3,572 to €4,128 depending on experience, including 13th month
Retirement insurance reimbursement for non-French citizens: 16% of gross monthly salary
Basic salary increase: 6% every 12 months of continuous contract
Per diem and monthly living expenses: €619 net, paid on the ground
Monthly context allowance: €150
Child allowance: €1,500 per year per child present in the country of origin (ceiling of €6,000/year)
Individual housing
Medical Coverage: 100% coverage of health and repatriation insurance contributions, your medical expenses (as well as those of your dependents) up to 1 month after the end of your contract
Salary maintenance arrangements (sickness, maternity, paternity)
Holidays and RnR: 25 days per year of holiday leave and 20 RnR per year; cover for the ticket with a ceiling to go to the chosen break zone, and €215 fixed compensation per RnR

Monitoring and support for professional careers
Unlimited and free access to the Talentsoft e-learning platform

Yaoundé is the political capital and one of the largest cities in the country, along with Douala (the commercial capital). The security environment is stable, allowing for numerous social opportunities. There are no curfews, but basic safety rules should be observed when traveling, especially at night. Coordination is based in Yaoundé.

The ACF program in Cameroon is characterized by a mix of emergency response in areas of complicated access and security, and simultaneously a long-term programmatic component, of resilience, in partnerships or large-scale consortia (multi-annual projects, multi-partner, with a regional dimension for some of them).
