NOTICE OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT FOR AN ASSISTANT MEDICAL COORDINATOR
MSF is a non-governmental humanitarian organization, founded in France in 1971 as a non-profit association. The Swiss branch was established in 1981. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, MSF’s mission is to provide humanitarian medical aid to all affected populations, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, philosophy, or political opinion.
Doctors Without Borders Switzerland is looking for a MEDICAL COORDINATOR
ASSISTANT for his mission in Cameroon.
Work location: Yaoundé with travel to projects.
Contract type: Fixed-term contract with a total duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal. Direct manager: Medical Coordinator.
Level: 13 according to the MSF salary scale.

MAIN OBJECTIVE
The Deputy Medical Coordinator, under the supervision of the Medical Coordinator, assists the latter and collaborates with him to, among other things: define, manage and coordinate the entire medical part of the mission, in accordance with MSF standards, policies, protocols and values, with the aim of ensuring the quality of medical treatment offered to the population at risk while improving their general health and living conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Medical Coordinator in defining, monitoring and updating the content of MSF’s policy and annual plan for the country, analyzing health needs through exploratory missions and the implementation of a health information system.
Fully ensures the coordination and monitoring of staff health-related activities. He/she acts as a link between the mission, staff, insurer, occupational physician, and psychologist. IV/she ensures that all documentation related to staff care is completed and properly archived. Is the focal point for emergency management and ensures weekly monitoring of alerts in collaboration with the epidemiological manager. He/she monitors the epidemiological situation and proposes and ensures field investigations and interventions in line with the mission’s EPREP strategy.
Participates and contributes to the definition and updating of the country policy, annual plan and budget in order to develop projects and programs designed to address the humanitarian problems envisaged, so as to ensure their effectiveness and quality.
When requested by the Medical Coordinator, represents MSF before third parties on matters of a medical nature, ensuring the good public image of the organization and ensuring that the interests of the mission are respected.
Maintain regular contact with local institutions and authorities, other NGOs in the country and other MSF sections, for better coordination of the deployment of health projects and programs.
Supervises, trains and motivates mission teams so that all field staff comply with MSF values and ethics, ensuring their ability to carry out the work assigned to them in compliance with MSF quality standards.
In collaboration with the medical coordinator, he/she ensures the gaps on the ground for the smooth running of regular projects.
He/she participates in defining or reviewing various strategies and project needs. In collaboration with the logistics department and according to the needs of the project, assists in the management of the pharmacy in order to ensure that medications and medical equipment are available in sufficient quantity and quality.
Selection Criteria
Education:
Medical diploma required;
Proof of valid registration with the Order of Physicians of Cameroon;
Training in tropical medicine or public health would be an asset.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position required at MSF or another international/national NGO;
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in planning, team management and supervision of health programs;
Professional medical experience, experience in the field of public health, epidemiology or tropical medicine, including infectious diseases: HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, etc., refugee health or disaster medicine;
Experience in a humanitarian context or emergency response zone; Experience in medical team management, monitoring and evaluation of health programs;
Knowledge of the national health system and relationship with health authorities.
Fluency in French and English (Provide proof of English level); Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Proficiency in MS Office 365 (e.g.: SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
