BACKGROUND
IUCN is a world leader in developing knowledge and understanding effective action for conservation. It brings together member states, government agencies and NGOs, and some 10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique global partnership, intended to provide a neutral forum for dialogue on issues related to the environment and sustainable development.
The IUCN office in Cameroon is part of the Central and West Africa Programme, headquartered in Dakar, Senegal. It works in close collaboration with several strategic partners, including members of the Union.
The IUCN Office in Cameroon has been implementing many initiatives for several years related to the conservation of biodiversity, protected areas, etc. It is in this sense that the Program is in the process of mobilizing funding for technical assistance and support for the management of the Benoué National Park in the North Cameroon region.

In order to ensure the implementation of this project, IUCN is recruiting a Park Advisor to be based at the Benoué Park Camp (black buffalo, Banda)/Garoua JOB
DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Under the direct responsibility of the Program Officer, the Park Advisor (or Team Leader) will be responsible for coordinating all IUCN interventions in the field in close collaboration with the curator. As such, he will ensure:
– the planning and implementation of all project activities according to the approved annual work plans;
– the preparation of the technical and financial reports of the project within the deadline;
– supervising the entire IUCN team in the field as part of this intervention;
– capacity building of MINFOF conservation managers and staff on biomonitoring;
– support for the organization and management of patrols and other anti-poaching measures;
– support for the organization and management of actions controlling or mitigating other threats to the Park;
– the establishment of a consultation framework with the other stakeholders of the Park;
– contribution to the mobilization of additional funding for the implementation of the project.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Hold a degree in Water and Forestry Engineering or at least a Master’s degree in Protected Area Development or Natural Resource Management;
• Have an experience of at least 10 years in the field of wildlife management or protected areas in Cameroon or in sub-Saharan Africa;
• Have worked for at least 5 years as an advisor to managers of national parks;
• Have proven experience in the coordination and management of projects, particularly those related to investments in protected areas;
• Have experience in the development and implementation of development plans and management plans for Areas of Hunting Interest;
• Have good experience in project planning and reporting;
• Have an excellent knowledge of the environmental, political, economic and social context of the management of protected areas in Cameroon and Africa;
• Have basic notions of communication techniques, and have excellent skills in communication and for working in multidisciplinary and multilingual teams;
• Have a good experience in the use of modern tools and technologies for the management of wildlife and protected areas
• An excellent level of spoken and written language in French and a good practice of English;
• Have a usual practice of computer tools and software for office and electronic communication;
• Good experience in project coordination in an international organization would be an asset;
• Be willing to live in remote areas.
