EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES MANAGER needed at MSF – Médecins Sans Frontières Cameroun
MSF is a non-governmental humanitarian organization, created in France in 1971, under the status of a non-profit association. The Swiss section was created in 1981. Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1999, MSF’s mission is to provide humanitarian medical aid to any affected population without distinction of ethnicity, gender, religion, philosophy or political opinion.
Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland is looking for a EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES MANAGER for its coordination in Yaoundé.
Workplace: Yaoundé with travel to projects
Type of contract: Fixed-term contract with possibility of renewal
Direct Manager: Medical Coordinator
Level: 10 according to the MSF salary scale

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
The Epidemiological Activities Manager’s main mission is to define, implement and
monitor epidemiology activities, ensure the correct implementation of protocols, the
development of an appropriate methodology, ensure the quality of studies to identify
risk factors for diseases and determine the optimal therapeutic approaches in terms of
clinical practice and preventive medicine to be used within the missions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the collection of information on national health policy (meetings, reports, articles, etc.), collect
and participate in the analysis of epidemiological data (meetings, reports, articles, etc.) of projects
• Actively participate in epidemiological and humanitarian surveillance meetings at the CCOUSP level or
through bilateral meetings with other partners and regularly share a weekly epidemiological bulletin
with the coordination.
• Propose and participate in evaluation/exploratory missions of epidemiological alerts in the field and
provide an evaluation report with recommendations in line with the results obtained and the local
context.
• Support the mission’s projects in supervising the entry of medical data, the control of the
quality of this data as well as their analysis. Participate in the writing of medical-operational reports and
provide feedback to the medical team to improve the quality or analysis/interpretation of routine data.
• Support projects in drafting operational survey and research protocols, ensure
that validations are obtained from the national and MSF ethics committees; supervise the implementation and drafting
of final reports.
• Actively participate in defining medical-operational strategies on the mission and provide
recommendations for an effective and efficient response.
• Assume the responsibilities of an epidemiologist if necessary.
• Ensure and maintain technical collaboration with headquarters epidemiology advisors and participate
in workshops organized by the medical department on topics related to the field of epidemiology.
• Perform other tasks at the request of the Medical Coordinator (strengthening a field team,
participation in external meetings, etc.)
Selection Criteria
Education Medical degree essential.
Degree (or master’s degree) in epidemiology or public health with in-depth training
in statistics and epidemiology desirable.
Specialization or training in tropical diseases desirable.
Experience Two years of experience in a position(s) comparable to epidemiological activities.
Professional experience within MSF or another NGO desirable.
Proven experience in writing protocols and using different quantitative study methodologies.
Languages Essential knowledge of the mission language (French and English); knowledge of local languages is an asset
