Forest Programe Manager
DRS is looking for a Programme Manager for an INGO that works to take care of our forests and those who rely on them: by protecting plant and animal species, Indigenous People’s rights, forest workers’ safety, and much more.
Job Title: Programme Manager
Contract: 2-year contract with extension
Location: Bonn, Germany
Starting date: as soon as possible
Position Description:
The Programme Manager will ensure the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of the NGO’s normative framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- To lead the Country Programme Team (Reviews), including staff supervision.
- To drive, coach, nurture, and inspire the Team to achieve a high sense of belonging, trust and fulfilment, as well as enable team members to deliver a high level of performance.
- To exercise the above leadership in the spirit of the NGO Leadership Principles.
- To establish and implement effective and outcome-oriented work plans based on considerate annual budgets and in line with organizational strategies and priorities.
- Exercise high-quality project management in the Programme.
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of all projects in the responsibility of the Programme within the planned budget.
- Ensure full alignment and seamless collaboration with the twin Country Programme, including aligned leadership and supervision style.
- To coordinate and oversee the development, approval, maintenance, review, revision, and interpretation of country normative requirements and to create and maximize synergies between the relevant procedures and reporting systems.
- To supervise the development of related communications, guidance, and training materials for the developers of standards and risk assessments, for the actual users (certificate holders and certification bodies), as well as for the relevant stakeholders.
- To ensure timely and adequate interventions to prevent delays and standstills in the ongoing processes.
- To maintain a well-functioning reporting system for the ongoing processes delivering regular, timely, and up-to-date status reports to management and approval bodies.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of a model for the integrated review and revision of the NGO Principles & Criteria, International Generic Indicators, and country standards.
- To develop and regularly review the terms of reference of the Forest Management Community and to oversee its management by the assigned coordinator.
- To establish and implement effective and outcome-oriented work plans based on considerate annual budgets and in line with organizational strategies and priorities.
- To coordinate activities within and beyond PSU, especially with Forest Management Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation Programme, and Regional Offices.
- To support fundraising and reporting to donors.
- To perform additional project work and additional tasks as assigned for special business needs and agreed with the formal supervisor.
- To adhere to PSU operational procedures, e.g. conformance with the internal PSU accreditation program for normative knowledge, agile work planning, reporting on office presence etc.
- Present NGO work in various fora, as applicable.
- Participate in NGO internal competence and accreditation program.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, Conservation Management, Certification, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Project Management.
- At least 5 years of experience in a people leadership position.
- Experience in multi-stakeholder standards development processes, Corporate environmental responsibility programs is a very strong asset.
- Proven experience in the successful management of projects.
- Experience with documentation review and proven records of document management.
- Strong review and document evaluation skills: the ability to understand complex contents and assess their relevance and applicability in a given context using standardized approaches.
- Experience in fundraising and donor reporting is a plus.
EDUCATION:
- Master’s degree or equivalent training or experience in a relevant field, for example, Forest Management, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or Business Administration. The PhD degree is a very strong asset.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Excellent spoken and written communication in English, the knowledge of Spanish/French is desirable.
OTHER SKILLS:
- Excellent time management skills: the ability to perform well while handling several functions simultaneously.
- Demonstrated strategic abilities.
- Standard software packages (MS Office 365, excellent in MS Word).
- Ability to quickly derive insights from data and reports, as well as guide data analytics relevant for the program performance.
