FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT – ​​DEADLINE 03/20/2023

 

The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon is seeking highly qualified Cameroonian secondary school teachers to participate in the 2023-2024 Fulbright Program for Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA), sponsored by the Office of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State.

 

 




 

 

Program components

Teachers who are selected to participate in the TEA Fulbright program will:

  1. Take part in tailor-made, graduate-level seminars at a US host university.
  2. Observe classes, co-teach and share their expertise with American colleagues in American high schools.
  3. Engage in an online professional learning community with other participants to share best practices and other elements of host and home country education systems.
  4. Participate in other educational and cultural activities while in the United States.

Upon their return, teachers will be expected to share the knowledge and experience gained through the program with teachers and students in their home school and community.

 

 




 

University courses

Weekly Seminars : Teachers will participate in weekly seminars at their host university, with presentations and discussions led by university staff, faculty members and visiting education experts. Fulbright’s TEA program offers academic seminars focused on new teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, content-based teaching, lesson planning, and instructional technology training for teachers.

Placements in American schools: The program will also include an internship of at least 40 hours with an American partner teacher in a secondary school close to the host university in order to actively involve the participants in the American school environment. Cultural enrichment, mentorship and support will be provided to participants throughout the program.

Online Professional Learning Community:   Each Fulbright teacher will participate in a virtual community with other international educators to collaborate and share best practices in education and leadership in participating countries.

 

 

 

 

Eligibility criteria

1) Full-time teachers of English, English as a foreign language, mathematics, science or social studies at the secondary level, including teachers specializing in these subjects in establishments serving mainly a local population, are eligible for the program.

2) Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have taught for at least five years full-time prior to the start of the program.

3) Secondary teachers include middle and high school teachers whose students are approximately 12 to 18 years old.

4) Applicants must reside in the country of which they are a citizen at the time of application and participation in the program.

Please note that this is an undergraduate or graduate degree program for practicing teachers. Education administrators (such as Ministry of Education officials or officials) and school administrators who do not teach at least fifty percent of their time, full-time teacher trainers, university professors, private English tutors and teachers from schools primarily serving expatriates are not eligible.

Applicants who in the past five to eight years have traveled to the United States on exchange programs such as the Study of the US Institutes (SUSI) or the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) or in other other Western countries for professional development purposes, must provide a strong rationale as to why they should be selected to go to the United States under the Fulbright TEA program.
