The United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa (the Centre), established in Yaoundé, Cameroon, was created at the request of the member countries of the Economic Community of Central African States ( ECCAS) and the decision of the UN General Assembly by the resolutions of December 5, 1998 (53/78) and December 1, 1999 (54/55).
The Center is the Central Africa Regional Office of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with a mandate to promote and protect human rights and democracy in 10 Central African countries. (Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad). The Centre’s role in the countries it covers is to ensure the effectiveness of human rights and democracy through capacity building, advocacy, lobbying, dialogue, prevention of human rights violations human rights monitoring, technical assistance and advisory services provided to all human rights actors, including governments,
The Center offers two-month fellowships renewable for a maximum period of six months, intended for graduate students, young practitioners and human rights defenders holding a degree in a field related to the activities of the Center in particular ; human rights, gender, democracy, documentation, communication/advocacy and administration/finance. This call for applications concerns the gender component.
