Location: Yaoundé, Cameroon
Work schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)

The Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation is hiring Two Health Policy Analysts for the Health Policy and Research Division of the Nkafu Policy Institute. These full-time positions will be based in Yaoundé-Cameroon.Jobs in Cameroon

The Nkafu policy Institute of the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation is a Think tank whose mission is to catalyze economic transformation by focusing on social entrepreneurship, science and technology, innovation, public health and the implementation of progressive policies that together creates economic opportunities for all.

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Senior Health Policy Analysts of Health Policy and Research Division, the Policy Analysts will have the following roles and responsibilities:
Conduct literature reviews, design interview questions, administer questionnaires and compile results;
Develop or participate in developing research topics, proposals, and research design;
Supervise and/or participate in data collection, and analysis;
Author 2-3 peer reviewed manuscripts a year;
Participate in interpreting data from a policy perspective to ensure completeness and accuracy of information;
Use qualitative and quantitative frameworks to organize, analyze, and interpret the data for all research projects under the health division;
Produce timely, accessible and reliable analysis on a range of policy issues affecting Cameroonians in particular and Africa in general. This includes, but is not limited to Government revenue generation and expenditure regarding health area; promoting equitable access to health care, and jobs that foster long-term economic security: and advance solutions that balance economic, social and environmental concerns;
Study programs and policies, rate their effectiveness and identify needs;
Develop a plan detailing method to meet those needs and measure the success;
Present findings to public policymakers, service providers, and news media. All in view to educate decision-makers and the public;
Play a key role in developing government policies and coordinating service providers;
Be an advocate for change when health threats need to be addressed or programs require revisions;
Contribute in grant writing and project implementation;
Summarize completed protocols and studies; write scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation;
Make site visits, conduct interviews with public officials, and supervise field research;
Document Foundation’s work in health including planning, operating procedures and observations across slum communities, deriving insights and learning from the work;
Study and document Foundation’s health processes as well as equivalent processes in other organizations (other Foundations, NGOs, government organizations);
Work with members of the health team to identify specific research problems, formulate research questions and design research for community health settings;
Work with community health partners and communities to gather primary information, collect data from governmental and non-governmental sources;
Work with other analysts to help refine analysis, improve the accessibility and impact of Nkafu’s products, edit and fact check materials to ensure delivery of high quality, credible analysis;
Stay updated with regional and national policy proposals and research relevant to the Foundation’s mission.;
Conduct research, write research articles and policy briefs on health care service delivery and other topics relevant to Africa.

Essential skills required
A minimum of a Master’s degree in public health, health policy or other related fields. A PhD in Public Health or an MD is preferred;
Must have expertise in developing public health policy, preferably with experience in policy analysis;
Required skills include data collection and interpretation, developing strategic plans and a complete mastery of public health policies of Cameroon;
Strong research background; (conceptualization,
MUST be proactive and motivated;
Good computer literacy;
Flexible approach, strong initiative and adaptability;
People-friendly and interactive skills are also necessary as this job involves public education, program coordination and advocacy;
Good social media communication skills.

He/She needs to have strong communication (bilingual candidates preferred) and facilitation skills. Advocating for change in public policy requires a confidant person who can speak to public officials or stand before an audience and make a convincing case.
He/She needs to have good writing skills and this position requires different types of writings (peer reviewed research manuscripts, short articles, policy briefs, news releases, bulletins, reports, posters, fliers etc.
He/She must possess creative and innovative thinking skills
Other needed skills include multitasking, paying attention to details and working well independently and as a team member and ability to meet tight deadlines to complete urgent tasks
Track record of creativity, adaptability and personal accountability.
