DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER

CALL FOR EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF AN ICT TRAINEE FOR THE COMMUNAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM (PRADEC) OF THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT GmbH In Garoua.

 




 

 

The Communal Development Support Program (PRADEC II) is an initiative of the German-Cameroonian Cooperation implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) under the supervision of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL) . Its objective is to support the partner municipalities so that they better invest in their roles for local development in partnership with state actors, civil society and the private sector.

 

 




 

 

The achievement of this objective as well as the sustainability of the achievements of the first phase (2017-2020) will be based on four components: (1) Improving the capacities of municipalities to shape national cooperation relations in the field of finance local; (2) Capacity building for municipal infrastructure management; (3) Strengthening of skills in the use of participation and dialogue formats in the context of municipal development; (4) The implementation of innovative ICT solutions (information and communication technologies), especially in rural areas.

 

Through its fourth field of intervention dedicated to the implementation of ICT solutions in its partner municipalities, called “Smart Communities”, PRADEC II supports the strengthening of the communities’ digital skills and technological innovation. In this context, two municipalities (North and Littoral) and a Techhub based in Douala have been equipped with two mini makerspaces. They are each equipped with small machines such as a 3D printer, 01 laser cutter, 01 CNC machine, 01 Vinyl cutter, complete Adruino Kits, Raspberry Pi + corresponding robot Kit and 01 digital embroiderer.

 

 

With a view to working for the sustainability of these creative spaces, PRADEC II plans to support the capacity building of the makerspaces set up so that they meet the specific needs of the beneficiary populations.

 

To this end, PRADEC II plans to recruit one (01) trainee to support its “Smart Communities” team in the development of the makerspaces and other digital services component.

 

  1. Area of ​​responsibility

The intern will support the “Smart Communities” team on operational aspects aimed at developing the activities of makerspaces and other digital services deployed in multipurpose community telecentres (TCP). In addition, you will be called upon to contribute to the development of a rural-urban collaboration strategy as part of the development of digital services useful to populations in rural areas.

 

In this context, the incumbent has the following responsibilities:

 

  1. Allocations

Under the supervision of the designated internship supervisor, the tasks of the intern will focus on supporting makerspace and TCP managers and will include:

 

  • Support for the development of a development strategy for makerspace activities;
  • Support for managers in the management and maintenance of makerspace equipment
  • Support for the implementation of training activities in makerspaces and TCP;
  • Support for the development of partnerships around TCP makerspaces and services.

 

PROFILE REQUIRED

    1. Qualifications, skills and experience required
    • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications or other similar fields;
    • Have knowledge of makerspace software and equipment; 
    • Have a first experience in coaching and training young people on topics related to ICT services and applications;
    • Have good communication skills;
    • Have a good command of French and English, both written and spoken;
    • Be willing to travel frequently and work in rural areas.

    Contract start date : February 15, 2023

    Contract period : 3 months

    Duty station : Garoua

    Internal classification of the position: Internship, under the technical supervision of the person in charge of the field of intervention (4).

    Deadline for admissibility of application files: January 31, 2023

    Eligibility conditions: The last diploma dating from less than 18 months.
