JOB: Internship in the Disaster Management Department (DCPRR) – International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

Assist National Societies to determine needs and to design, develop, monitor and evaluate appropriate Disaster Management programs for the vulnerable.
Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Regional Disaster Management Coordinator in her various tasks which consist of:

 

 




 

  • support National Societies (NS) and the Federation in the collection and analysis of relevant data and information, in order to identify problems and formulate proposals for intervention within the framework of current or new disaster management programmes.
  • support NS in building skills and capacities for disaster preparedness and response
  • support NS in the development and execution of disaster management programs (prevention and response), the training of response teams to current or new disasters
  • assist in the establishment of the mechanisms envisaged for a West and Central Africa Disaster Response Team and seek flexible mechanisms for the deployment of RDRT when needed, thus making concrete the element of Solidarity between the SN.

 

 

 

  • support NS in the training and retraining of community-based first aid workers.
  • assist volunteers in the implementation of disaster risk prevention, preparedness and reduction activities, and raise public awareness of these risks.
  • support the animation of the regional disaster management structure (Surge) by organizing the various training sessions under other practical themes, a meeting of the RDRT members for a recycling of all the themes already studied.

 

 

 

Job Duties And Responsibilities (continued)

  • regularly update the database of the members of the RDRT Team, as well as the insurance subscription formalities and the deployment procedures and communicate them to the NS.
  • communicate regularly to the NS, the Federation and the donors, the activity reports and accurate up-to-date financial statements.
  • liaise and collaborate with NGOs, agencies of the United Nations system, local authorities in charge of risk management, in particular the Directorate of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization.
  • support NS in the assessment, planning, planning, implementation and reporting of disaster relief operations.
  • train NS managers in mastering disaster preparedness and response tools
  • support the NS in the timely production and publication of Up date operations and any other reports.
Profile required:
Required 

  • Relevant university degree or equivalent knowledge
  • Basic Disaster Management training/knowledge

Favorite

  • Be a member of the National or Regional Disaster Management Team with relevant experience

Experience
Required

  • Experience and knowledge not related to CRCR humanitarian organizations in emergency situations.
  • Field experience in implementing disaster management activities during emergencies.
  • Experience in humanitarian organizations, through an appropriate combination of technical support roles and emergency field roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing community-based disaster management programs in the humanitarian sector
  • Program planning experience.
  • Experience in Red Cross work, in developing countries, with a humanitarian aid organization
  • Experience in capacity and vulnerability assessments.
  • Experience in management, monitoring and evaluation of major sector programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Languages
​​Required

  • Good computer skills (Windows, spreadsheets, word processing).
  • Able to train/strengthen the capacity of teams
  • Speak, read and write French and English fluently
