Context
Helen Keller International is a non-profit International Non-Governmental Organization, present in Cameroon since 1992 and therefore the mission is to save the sight and the life of vulnerable and most disadvantaged populations.
In Cameroon, the mortality of children under five remains high with 71 deaths per 100 live births in 2019. Micronutrient deficiency is a public health concern with a significant prevalence for certain micronutrients such as vitamin A which affects approximately 35% children under five years old. Helen Keller supports the Government in its multiple strategies to combat the harmful effects of these malnutrition problems.
Helen Keller implements several projects related to food systems in almost all regions of Cameroon, including:
- GIVEWELL for Vitamin A Supplementation in the West, Adamaoua, East, South, Littoral and Center regions;
- The VAS Routine project, implemented in the Far North region in the health districts of Kaele and Guidiguis;
- The VAS Research project, implemented in the Far North region in the health districts of Kaele and Guidiguis;
- The LOKALE project in partnership with the GIZ on Strengthening local nutrition governance, implemented in 12 municipalities in the west and 03 municipalities in Adamaoua;
- The Stunting project to reduce chronic malnutrition in 05 Health Districts in the Far North region.
These projects require close monitoring and good coordination of activities. In addition, these projects take place in regions other than the Central region where the central office is located.
In order to support the food systems program team, in its coordination of the various programs, Helen Keller Intl-Cameroon is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of a Food system Program Assistant.
Job Title: Program Assistant
Supervisor : Food System Director
Place of performance of the contract: Yaoundé
Type of contract : Fixed-term contract
Duration: One (01) year with possibility of renewal
Responsibilities
The candidate will assist the Food System Program Director, and all the other program staff in the implementation and monitoring of Helen Keller’s Nutrition activities.
Main Functions
Support the Food System Program Director in the administrative and technical coordination of activities related to all program projects:
More specifically, he must:
- Attend coordination meetings of all active projects of the Food Systems Department;
- Assist the Head of Department and the Project Managers in the preparation of the various activities: Supervisions; field missions, etc. ;
- Participate in the collection and analysis of programmatic data with the actors of the regions and districts targeted by the program interventions;
- Assist project managers in the review of deliverables submitted by the DRSPs in the execution of their fixed amount grants (FAA);
- Logistical and administrative preparation of department meetings and reporting;
- Follow Procurement and logistics requests concerning the department;
- Ensure the maintenance and updating of files tracking files from and to the food systems department;
In other,
- He will play the role of focal point for all requests from the Maroua sub-office and other department staff working in regions other than Yaoundé, and he will follow up and provide feedback to field staff;
- He will carry out all other tasks assigned by his hierarchy within the program team.
Minimum requirements and skills
- Cameroonian nationality.
- University degree BAC+3 minimum in social sciences, epidemiology, project management, health sciences, nutrition or any other related fields.
- At least 03 years of professional experience. Experience with non-governmental organizations would be an asset.
- Maîtrise de Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience working with the Cameroonian health system would be an asset.
- Good written and oral expression in English and French.
- Good adaptability.
- Sense of confidentiality.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good interpersonal skills.
