Summary of Essential Job Functions:
The Social Worker is responsible for ensuring the psychosocial care of women and girls victims of violence and the management of GBV activities on the site he or she covers. This may also include individual counseling or other types of psychosocial interventions depending on the needs of the program. He/She is also responsible for helping beneficiaries with psychological recovery and ensuring their reintegration into their family and/or community.
He/She also monitors using the methods and tools established by the IMC GBV program.
- Specific responsibilities and tasks
- Ensure psychosocial implementation (identification, reception, listening, support and referral) in emergency situations;
- Facilitate the participation of beneficiaries in their own care;
- Permanently and monthly identify the difficulties encountered by vulnerable women and girls and report them within the team, propose solutions and facilitate their implementation;
- Submit monitoring reports to the component Supervisor within the required time frame;
- Participate appropriately in the monthly production of observation notes and recommendations for activities;
- Coordinate the implementation of daily activities, in collaboration with the medical staff of the mobile medical unit;
- Coordinate psychosocial care and case management;
- Conduct awareness raising to inform community members of available care and services for GBV survivors – including medical, psychosocial and legal;
- Identify GBV survivors in the community with the support of community volunteers;
- Ensure safety and access to quality medical care in a timely manner;
- Provide ongoing and additional psychosocial support as needed, including home visits if applicable;
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding case information, including proper documentation of new cases and storage of case notes in secure filing cabinets;
- Follow the guiding principles on GBV: safety, confidentiality, respect and non-discrimination and ensure that implementing partners do so as well;
- Engage the community at all levels to build, strengthen and maintain a functioning community referral network
- Coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of GBV communications activities
- Organize awareness sessions with women’s groups in WGSS focusing on GBV themes
- Participate in the facilitation of training sessions and field support visits;
- Capacity Building :
- Supervise and strengthen the capacity of community mobilizers on SBCC (Social and behavior communication change) techniques.
- Support the development and implementation of the various training courses planned in the project.
- Monitoring and reporting:
- Ensure the collection of accurate data from field activities by mobilizers
- Gather data and submit weekly reports to GBV supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of community participation during the community awareness course.
- Maintain the flexibility to perform other tasks when requested by the supervisor
- Collaboration
- Participate in support in the field of psychosocial care for partner organizations, relays/volunteers and leaders;
- Provide technical support to partner agents, especially volunteers, during field monitoring visits;
- Always follow international guiding principles and protocols for IMC and working with GBV survivors, and ensure that focal points and other agents on the ground do the same.
- Actively participate in assessment and response missions as appropriate, particularly in building community capacity.
- Participate in the collection of information/data on program indicators,
- Actively participate in weekly GBV team meetings as well as internal and external training,
- Collaborate effectively with leaders of other programs and departments.
PROFILE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Training:
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, sociology, gender, public health, international development or other relevant field of study, or equivalent experience.
Experience :
– Two years of experience implementing programs to combat gender-based violence, particularly with refugees.
– Relevant experience in the field of gender-based violence is strongly desired.
– Experience working with a national or international NGO supporting the health system in Cameroon.
– Experience working in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment
– Experience in responding to emergency situations in Cameroon is a plus.
– Residing in the regions mentioned above is a plus.
SKILLS :
– Knowledge of standards and guidelines for gender-based violence programming, as well as guidance on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA).
– Ability to exercise good judgment, adapt to a changing environment and make independent decisions.
– Ability to work with an intercultural team
– Strong ability to work for a long time and under pressure, to be dynamic, intelligent and proactive.
– Strong communication skills, both oral and written
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
– Essential computer skills (word, excel and internet). Ability to learn and use software used for recording.
– Ability to multitask and adapt easily in a resource-limited environment.
– Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and the local language (Fulfulde). Knowledge of English is a plus.
Security:
Ensures application and compliance of security protocols and policies.

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps
