IDENTIFICATION 1
Job Title: Protection Monitor
Reports to: Protection Monitor Team Leader
Duty station Bamenda and Kumba
Type of contract Fixed Term
Duration of employment contract: 10 months subject to funding
Availability: March 2023
Main objective and tasks
S/he is responsible for the collection of protection data and for the overall monitoring of the protection context in the assigned area. Contribute to the design of methodology and analysis and liaise directly with affected communities.
S/he identifies individuals at risk through household level assessments or individual interviews and provides them with orientation on available services or refers those with specific protection concerns as required.
Tasks:
• Conduct protection monitoring activities at household and community level using different quantitative and qualitative tools
• Identify key informants in the community to involve in regular protection monitoring activities through semi-structured or unstructured interviews (KIIs)
• Facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) amongst community members on selected topics to better understand the causes and consequences of identified risks
• Monitor and report protection concern and trends, new population displacements and movements in the areas of operations
• Report to the Protection Monitor Team Leader any serious protection incidents or immediate protection concern identified within target communities
• Identify individual cases with protection concerns during data collection for referral to internal services or specialized agencies
• Verify collected information on protection risks as well as availability and access to services through direct observation of the area
• Support the Protection Monitor Team Leader in reporting qualitative and quantitative data and information
• Map main service providers in the area of intervention and identify and report gaps in the availability of services and quality of service provision
• Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including but not limited to: do no harm, non- discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles
• Support sensitization, information dissemination and awareness raising activities.
Educational and professional experience required
• University degree in a related field eg social sciences or equivalent is an asset
• Training in humanitarian protection thematics such as community-based protection, survival centered-case management, PSEA, GBV and Child protection will be an asset.
Technical and behavioral competencies required Work Experience:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a humanitarian context, in an association, NGO or INGO, with at least 1 year of field work experience in the NW or SW regions during the context of crisis
• One year of relevant working experience in the protection sector
• Previous working experience with IDPs, refugees and returnees
• Strong knowledge of international protection in the humanitarian context
• Strong knowledge in other protection areas (ie case management, psychosocial support activities etc.)
• Experience working and / or collaborating on a UNCHR project would be an asset.
• Leadership, planning and organizational skills
• Respect and non-discriminatory attitude
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
IT: Advanced Knowledge of
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, outlook),
• Mainstream web browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox)
• Web-based mainstream chat and conferencing tools/platforms (Skype, Teams, Zoom and WebEx)
• Web 2.0 tools (cloud storage, webmail and others)
Languages
• Fluency in both written and oral formal English
• Strong redactional and reporting skills
• Fluency in Pidgin English
