JOB DESCRIPTION
NRC is implementing projects in the North West and South West Regions since 2018. All NRC Core Competencies: Education, WASH, Shelter, ICLA, and Livelihood and Food Security, are now fully operational in the NW , SW, and extending to the West, and Littoral regions. In order to effectively implement all of its programs, there is a great need for Education Support. With the huge gaps already existing within the team, an Education Officer is needed to ensure the strict respect of the BLP procedures and provide the necessary support needed by the teams in the execution of the ongoing projects.

 




 

RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Generic responsibilities

Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, guidelines, and donor requirements.
Implement the Education activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans.
Prepare periodic status reports and other documents as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents
Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans.
Coordinate with relevant partners
Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
Train and develop team
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement to improve the quality of the activities.
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist

 

 

B. Specific responsibilities

Ensure correct data collection and tracking of all emergency interventions and participate in compiling emergency related internal (bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly) and external (interim and final) reports
Take responsibility for any materials, tools, vehicles, communication equipment provided by NRC
Lead in organizing and facilitating trainings programs in psychosocial support, life skills, content, and pedagogy.
Lead the Education emergency team in developing training program for teachers and school management committees (SMCs) including follow-up and support.
Participate in cluster training by offering technical skills and knowledge when required in consultation with the Education Project Manager.

 

 

Determine training needs of teachers and SMCs from time together with the cluster and the Project Coordinator
Determine resource materials required for effective teaching including improvised teaching and learning materials to supplement stationery supplied to schools.
Establish appropriate teacher resource kits within targeted school in consultations with teachers.
Develop and execute teacher support programs at school level together with Ministry of Education officials.
Performance management of Education Assistants under your responsibility
Establishes a community complaints and accountability mechanism.
Works closely with NRC partner staff and treats them with respect.
Ensures the quality of report writing in a timely manner
Ensures the quality and regular monitoring of the progress of activities in the office and in the field in close coordination with the Ministry of Basic Education.
Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Education Project Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
C. General professional skills:

At least two years’ experience in the field of education.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social and Management Sciences and/or other related fields.
Professional experience as Project Officer/Team Leader in a humanitarian/recovery context.
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Proven track record on the responsibilities of the position.
Experience with rural communities and knowledge of local languages ​​spoken within areas of intervention.
Knowledge of national and international norms and standards relating to education.
Ability to understand issues related to cross-cutting themes such as gender, protection, HIV/AIDS, environment.
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own manager skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and verbal and knowledge of French an asset.
Computer skills: MS Office required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
D. Context related skills, knowledge and experience

Knowledge of the crisis context in the North West & South West Regions
Background in PSS and/or child protection
Study in psychology
Experience working in the education sector
Experience in developing training packages (education related)
Experience in delivering ToT
Good-level competency in computer skills (common Microsoft Windows and Office applications)
Proven skills and experience in report writing
Strong organizational and logistical skills and the ability to work with little infrastructure and to function in difficult situations including limited transport options
