A BACKGROUND
The Global Education Monitoring Report (or GEM Report) is an independent, authoritative and evidence-based annual editorial report that tracks progress of education in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. . The Report is funded by a group of governments, multilateral agencies and foundations and published annually by UNESCO to serve the international community. It is widely recognized as an indispensable technical and advocacy tool to support the achievement of SDG 4, which aims to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education” and to promote “lifelong learning for all by 2030. In addition to the global report, a range of outputs serve the purposes of the GEM report, including:
gender report;
Regional reports, which delve deeper into the theme of the global report in a particular region to create stronger policy impact; and
PEER, a website that documents key laws and policies that characterize each country’s approach to the global report theme, as well as other selected education issues.
B. OBJECTIVES
B. OBJECTIVES
The GEM Report team is seeking to recruit a consultant to support the team in preparing for the production of a series of documents due for release in 2023.
Under the general supervision of the Senior Communications and Advocacy Specialist, and under the direct supervision of the Publications Manager, the consultant will support the GEM Report team by providing support for the production of these documents, as well as support for the work communications team overall.

This will involve:
Support all aspects of production related to translations of the executive summary (60 pages) of the 2023 GEM report, the youth report, the 2023 regional report, two policy papers and the Spotlight series. This includes following up with UNESCO Field Offices for translation of the 2023 Summary version into local languages (approximately 20), reviewing budget requests for Summary translation and coordination with Field Offices of any changes made to the English Summary version. It includes the follow-up of all translation requests made to the various service providers in order to ensure accurate invoicing at the end of each contractual period.
Support quality control of editing, graphic design, proofreading, translation and printing services for GEM Report products, ensuring prompt delivery and professional quality.
Support the procurement process for editing, proofreading, graphic design, proofreading and translation of report documents in all UN languages, as required;
Assist with production schedules as needed for GEM Report related documents.
Provide assistance in the production of other related materials, including policy documents (32 pages), posters (10), communication materials and leaflets.
Assist in the distribution of GEM Report products, by arranging and logging print requests for GEM Report materials and liaising with the team’s distribution assistant.
Support the Senior Communications and Advocacy Specialist in migrating the current GEM Report contact list to a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
Provide support to the GEM Report communications team as needed, including helping to collect analytics on the number of visitors and downloads to/from GEM Report documents and web pages.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University degree in communications, publishing, social or political science or related field.
Professional experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in publishing, communications;
Skills/Competencies
Ability to multi-task and manage urgent deadlines;
Publishing experience is required;
Experience working with the United Nations or comparable international organization is desirable;
Demonstrated experience in supporting publishing activities in an international setting, particularly the type of flagship material for a wide variety of audiences;
Good computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe, Drupal, presentations and internet communications. Working knowledge of graphic design software (InDesign, Photoshop, Canva).
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
