Job Description- Research Medical Officer
Background: The Center for Health Promotion and Research provides high-quality diagnostic services, undertakes programs to strengthen health provision, and engages in research to increase knowledge and inform policy change. We are currently implementing research aimed at improving the diagnosis of tuberculosis.
Position summary: The Research Medical officer will work with an experienced team to implement clinical research studies in accordance with the research protocols, standard operating procedures and Good Clinical Practice. Full-time position, based in Bamenda with ~5-15% travel to other regions.
Typical responsibilities and duties, depending on skill set:
- Recruit study participants by providing information about the study and enrolling them according to the study protocol
- Review subject medical histories and physical examinations to determine if they meet study criteria and monitor their progress throughout the study
- Perform diagnostic screening and specimen collection for participants according to the study protocol
- Coordinate with other medical staff to ensure that participants are receiving adequate care during the duration of the study
- Assist Project Manager in project planning, review and implementation of study to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality results
- Recruit potential study participants at community outreach events and in health facilities
- Monitor key indicators, including quality/quality indicators, for research activities
- Stay up-to-date with new and updated relevant protocols and research findings
- Contribute to project reports
- Perform other duties as needed to ensure the success of the program
Qualifications:
- Education: Medical Doctor diploma
- At least 1 year work experience as Medical Doctor or in clinical work (may be during clinical training)
- Experience as a research clinician is preferred
- Strong interest and passion to work as part of team to improve public health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good working knowledge in French is an advantage
- Ability to plan own work, set priorities and complete under pressure
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and willingness to learn new programs as needed
- A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently
- Meticulous attention to detail and open to quality review of all work done
This position is planned for one year with the possibility for renewal depending on funding availability.
