Mission and objectives
The Office of the UNHCR was established on December 14, 1950 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The agency’s mandate is to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary objective is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option of returning home voluntarily, integrating locally or resettling in a third country.

context
The UNV will be called upon to work in close collaboration with the Technical Secretariat of the Ministry in charge of External Relations (MINREX), a partner of the UNHCR. The Technical Secretariat is made up of a Coordinator, three Supervisors, 1 Assistant Archivist and 21 Eligibility Officers, all civil servants. who are responsible for supporting UNHCR in matters of refugee status determination. On the other hand, the HCR retains to this day the function of registering asylum seekers/refugees in the absence of a formal agreement between the two Parties for the transfer of this responsibility to the Government. To date, there is only one UNHCR staff authorized to register asylum seekers/refugees, while the number of asylum seekers awaiting registration is increasing daily. The operation therefore urgently needs additional human resources to meet protection standards. UNV will be responsible for monitoring all activities related to registration, including activities related to reception, records and data management. UNV will answer all questions posed by asylum seekers and refugees on registration procedures and their rights in this regard. The Assistant will be required to work closely with other colleagues in the Protection section in order to register new asylum seekers without delay. UNHCR has several Units within it: Protection, Programme, Administration, Logistics, IP, etc. UNV will be responsible for monitoring all activities related to registration, including activities related to reception, records and data management.
