MAINSTREAMING AND GENDER TECHNICAL ADVISOR – YAOUNDÉ – GIZ CAMEROUN
DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER
CALL FOR INTERNAL/EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF A TECHNICAL ADVISOR IN GENDER MAINSTREAMING FOR THE REGIONAL OFFICE OF THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT GmbH BASED IN YAOUNDE.
Promoting gender equality is an important goal of German development cooperation and gender mainstreaming is a lived norm in GIZ’s work.
The measure of the GIZ Regional Office “ Transversal measure for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women in Cameroon ” aims to contribute to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women in Cameroon. This involves developing and implementing a “strategic and transversal gender” approach to the German cooperation portfolio in Cameroon; to strengthen the organizational capacities of civil society and to network civil society organizations, professional associations and GIZ programs and to strengthen gender integration within GIZ and its partner organizations. The measure has three main objectives:
- Advice and support in the development and implementation of a “transversal gender” analysis and strategy of the portfolio in collaboration with KfW and BGR in Cameroon
- Support for networking of actors who promote gender equality through exchange formats in order to increase the effectiveness of their activities for the empowerment of women
- Strengthening the gender-transformative approach of GIZ programs and according to the possibilities of German cooperation and these partner organizations through advice on gender integration in the spirit of a feminist development policy
To this end, the GIZ Regional Office in Yaoundé is looking for one (1) Gender Technical Advisor to support the implementation of this measure.
Area of Responsibilities and Assignment
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the technical advisor in social cohesion will be responsible for promoting gender integration internally and externally at GIZ Cameroon. The incumbent works in close collaboration (tandem) with an international technical assistant as Gender Focal Points for GIZ Cameroon.
- Technical advice on gender (in tandem with the international technical assistant )
- Ensure the implementation and monitoring of the GIZ gender strategy and the diversity charter
- Advise management on gender equality priorities identified in Cameroon
- Advise program managers on gender requirements in internal procedures
- Support the development and implementation of a gender portfolio analysis and strategy for German cooperation in Cameroon
- Advise GIZ partner programs and organizations on gender mainstreaming, GIZ gender tools, BMZ feminist development policy and gender-sensitive and gender transformative approaches
- Develop and support the implementation of parity measures
- Improve the gender capacities and knowledge of GIZ staff in Cameroon
- Collaborate with other GIZ Cameroon services on gender
- Support projects in capitalizing on their gender approaches
- Collaborate actively in gender networks within GIZ and ensure the circulation of information on gender activities
- Write reports and communication materials on GIZ’s gender activities in Cameroon
- Coordination with partner organizations (in tandem with the international technical assistant )
- Support capacity building activities and networking of civil society organizations
- Assume tasks in the organization and coordination of network and exchange formats with partner organizations
- Cooperation with other German cooperation organizations
- Support cooperation with the German Embassy and other German cooperation organizations on gender issues and other cross-cutting themes (in tandem with the international technical assistant)
- Support the visibility of German development cooperation as well as other processes e.g. in cooperation with the German Embassy
- Assume any other task entrusted by management.
PROFILE REQUIRED
Required Qualifications
- University degree (Bac +4/5) in gender sciences, social or political sciences, development sciences, or a relevant field
Professional experience
- At least 4 years of professional experience as a gender expert
- At least 2 years of professional experience in development cooperation
- At least 1 year of professional experience in adult training
Other knowledge/skills
- Good working knowledge of the use of information and communication technologies and core applications (such as Office 365)
- Good knowledge of gender dimensions in Cameroon
- Knowledge in the design of participatory processes and networking formats
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (C1), French (C1), German being an asset
- Skill in conflict management, negotiation and decision-making
- Excellent ability to work in a team
- High degree of self-organization and structured way of working
- Strong intercultural skills
Contract start date : November 1, 2023
Contract period : 2 years Renewable
Duty station : Yaoundé
Internal classification of the position: Band 4T, under the hierarchical supervision of the portfolio manager
