Chemonics seeks a potential Malaria HSS Specialist to provide technical and program oversight for Health System Strengthening (HSS) activities. Experience in Cameroon is required and proficiency in English and French is highly desired for this position. We are looking for people who have the passion to make a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Chemonics International, an international development consulting organization that has been operating since 1975 in more than 150 countries around the world, seeks an experienced Malaria HSS Specialist (Capacity Building) for USAID’s anticipated activity in Cameroon through the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). This activity aims to advance the goals of PMI Cameroon and the Cameroon National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), which are to reduce deaths, reduce disease and reduce transmission to accelerate malaria elimination in Cameroon.

 




 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead malaria health systems strengthening activities to address gaps at the national, regional and facility levels
  • Build capacity of the NMCP in leadership and governance at the national, regional and facility levels
  • Support NMCP and build capacity to strengthen the malaria support supervision system at national, regional and district levels
  • Participate in NMCP budgeting and work planning and ensure these are aligned with the national strategic plan
  • Support NMCP in updating malaria strategic plans and policies
  • Work with NMCP to ensure front line health workers receive adequate training and mentoring to provide high quality malaria services
  • Work closely with partners to ensure commodities and supplies for malaria service delivery are consistently available at PMI sites
  • Participate in project annual work planning and preparation of donor progress reports
  • Maintain excellent relationships with in-country stakeholders

 



 

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in public health, or a related field
  • Candidate must be a citizen of Cameroon with work experience in the country
  • At least 8 years of experience in health service delivery, including at least five years of experience in malaria
  • A working knowledge of PMI indicators and the Government of Cameroon Malaria Control Strategic Plan
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Cameroon, with a strong understanding of the Cameroonian context
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners on collaborative projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English and French desired
  • Willingness to travel extensively in Cameroon

  • Strengthen the leadership and governance capacities of the PNCL at the national, regional and facility levels.
  • Support the PNCL and build capacity to strengthen the malaria support supervision system at national, regional and district levels.
  • Participate in the budgeting and planning of the work of the PNCL and ensure that it is in line with the national strategic plan.
  • Support NMCP in updating malaria strategic plans and policies.
  • Collaborate with the NMCP to ensure that frontline health workers receive adequate training and supervision to provide high quality malaria services.
  • Work closely with partners to ensure commodities and supplies needed to deliver malaria services are always available at PMI sites.
  • Participate in annual project work planning and preparation of donor progress reports
  • Maintain excellent relationships with country stakeholders.

 



 

Qualifications for Malaria HSS Specialist (Capacity Building):

  • Advanced degree in public health or related field
  • Applicant must be a citizen of Cameroon with work experience in the country
  • At least 8 years of experience in the provision of health services, of which at least 5 years in the field of malaria
  • Working knowledge of PMI indicators and the Government of Cameroon Malaria Control Strategic Plan
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Cameroon, with a good understanding of the Cameroonian context
  • Proven ability to work with multiple partners on collaborative projects.
  • Recognized leadership, versatility and integrity
  • Fluent English and French desired
  • Ability to travel a lot in Cameroon.
