Recruitment of six (06) assistant team leaders for wildlife inventories
1. Context
Cameroon is home to exceptional biodiversity, particularly in the forest landscape of the South-East, where several Protected Areas (PA), Hunting Interest Zones (ZIC), Community-Managed Hunting Interest Zones (ZICGC) and Forest Management Units (UFA) are located. However, this biodiversity is threatened by poaching, deforestation, illegal logging and human-wildlife conflicts.
In this context, Noé is implementing, in partnership with Nature+, the NaturaSud-Est Sustainable Territories – Conservation in Forest Management Units (UFA), Hunting Interest Zones (ZIC) and Community-Managed Hunting Interest Zones
(ZICGC) project on the outskirts of Lobéké National Park, which aims to strengthen inclusive
biodiversity conservation by actively involving local communities. A key component of the project
is the establishment of an ecological monitoring system, requiring the recruitment of six assistant
team leaders to support the main team leaders in carrying out
wildlife inventories based on distance sampling, both with linear pedestrian transects and
camera traps (Camera Traps Distance Sampling).
2. Missions and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the main team leaders and the Ecological Monitoring Manager
in close collaboration with the Project Coordinator, the assistant team leaders will have the
following missions:2
A. Implementation of wildlife inventories or installation/recovery of
camera traps
Assist in the coordination and supervision of field inventory campaigns.
Rigorously apply ecological monitoring methods:
o Linear pedestrian transects;
o Camera Trap Distance Sampling;
o GPS surveys and habitat mapping;
Ensure the collection and transmission of field data.
B. Management and coordination of field teams
Organize logistics and distribution of tasks within the team;
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and working instructions in forest environments;
Ensure regular communication with the main team leaders.
C. Awareness and collaboration with local communities
Collaborate with local communities for sustainable management of
natural resources;
Raise awareness on conservation and ecological monitoring.
3. Desired profile
A. Training and experience
Accustomed to wildlife data collection work in the forest;
Experience in ecological monitoring and field management desired;
Knowledge of forest ecosystems and the wildlife of Lobéké National Park and its
periphery.
B. Technical skills
Mastery of monitoring tools (GPS, SMART Mobile, Cybertracker);
Experience in data collection and management;
Ability to work in isolated conditions;
C. Personal qualities
Good physical condition and resistance to work in tropical forests;
Team spirit and adaptability;3
Organizational skills and scientific rigor;
Spirit of humility and submission to instructions.
4. Conditions of the position
Duty station: Salapoumbé, East Region, Cameroon.
Work location: Community Interest Zones (CIZ) around Lobéké National Park;
Contract duration: 6-month fixed-term contract, renewable;
Remuneration: According to Noé’s experience and salary scale;
Start date: May or June 2025.
