Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Supervisor

The MHPSS Supervisor’s function is to support the MHPSS coordination in the implementation, monitoring, control and supervision of activities related to the various aspects of MHPSS of the different IMC projects.

A. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the supervision of the MHPSS Manager/Coordinator and in line with national and international best practice guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support, the role of the MHPSS Supervisor will be to:

1. Support MHPSS coordination in the design of MHPSS activities and MHPSS-related aspects of IMC.

2. In collaboration and harmony with CP and GBV supervisors, plan and adapt multi-sectoral content relevant to beneficiaries.

3. Ensure the implementation and supervision of MHPSS interventions on the ground in the different sites, including orientation on the roles and activities of social workers.

4. Organize and facilitate weekly team meetings to support and strengthen the administrative, technical and interpersonal skills of MHPSS workers, including remote supervision via WhatsApp;

5. Ensure collaboration and involvement of committees and traditional leaders to foster community ownership and sustainability of activities;

 




 

6. Contribute to the drafting of terms of reference and ensure adequate monitoring of MHPSS activities, including weekly and monthly reports, database and supply plan;

7. Participate in the training and capacity building of staff and beneficiaries;

8. Participate in weekly and monthly meetings that the MHPSS program is associated with, with or on behalf of the MHPSS coordination, including protection case management meetings, camp management meetings, etc.

9. Set up and plan the themes of the psycho-educational activities of sensitization of the community, on the basis of the information provided by the community intermediaries and the social workers;

10. Perform any other important activity requested by his superiors, within the limits of his abilities and rights.

 

 

B. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology or child psychology, or at least in psychology. If not, a degree in social sciences, with proven experience in mental health in a humanitarian context and for a similar position;
  • Minimum knowledge of internationally recommended intervention guides for the deployment of MHPSS activities;
  • Mastery of the basics of at least two psychotherapy techniques, including an individual technique and a group technique;
  • Experience of at least 3 years in MHPSS interventions in the health sector and with children, women and families;
  • Cameroonian nationality;
  • Minimal knowledge of the principles of humanitarian intervention;
  • Relatively good knowledge of computer tools and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and for long hours in low resource environments; in a multi-ethnic environment;
  • Interest in continuing education and professional development;
  • A minimum knowledge of written or spoken English would be a plus;
  • Experience working with a non-governmental organization and/or with refugees is an advantage;
