CBM invites applications for its scholarship programme: Award to Study Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology, for the academic year 2022/2023.

Twelve scholarships will be awarded to doctors across Africa who wish to pursue a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology (or equivalent) in the academic year 2022/2023. The scholarship package covers tuition fees, stipend, relocation expenses, in-patient medical cover for the resident, seminars, and a set of ophthalmic instruments.

The programme aims to address the shortage of trained and qualified ophthalmologists that is particularly prevalent in developing countries.

Qualified medical doctors who wish to specialise in the field of ophthalmology and who;

• reside and are currently working in the following African countries: Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
• can obtain admission to the postgraduate programme in Ophthalmology at any of the following universities: Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia / Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMUC), Tanzania / Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana / Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda / Muhimbili University of Health Allied and Science (MUHAS), Tanzania / University of Malawi, College of Medicine, Malawi / University of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe and University Teaching Hospital, Zambia.
• who are willing to work for a ‘service term’ in an eye care facility serving communities in underserved areas of their country. A service term is a bond agreement signed between the applicant and their employer committing to go back to work at their current facility for a specified period.
• are willing to adhere to CBM’s Core Values, CBM Disability Inclusive Practices for Strengthening Comprehensive Eye Care and CBM’s Safeguarding Policy.

The deadline for submitting your scholarship application is 27 January 2023, but applications will be processed as they are received.
