SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES
UNESCO and UNOPS have obtained, with the support of the Cameroonian authorities, new funding from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) to implement the project entitled: “Strengthening the role of young people in the promotion of living together and multiculturalism through secondary education and non-formal and informal learning centers in Cameroon”. This project aims to contribute to the mitigation of tensions and prevent the emergence of conflicts between displaced persons and host communities, by strengthening the role of young people in the promotion of living together and multiculturalism in educational settings. and community. To coordinate its implementation, the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa is recruiting a Project Coordinator.
He/she will be placed under the authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa and the direct supervision of the Regional Specialist and Head of the Culture Sector. The Project Coordinator will more specifically perform the following functions:
Project management and coordination
- Coordinate, and facilitate the implementation of project-related activities with all relevant stakeholders;
- Ensure the development and preparation of annual work plans for activities ensuring the consistency and quality of interventions with the project results framework;
- Develop performance indicators and a monitoring/evaluation system to regularly assess project impacts;
- Ensure alignment of the project with the Priority Plan and other ongoing or planned interventions, in order to avoid duplication and promote convergence and complementarity of actions;
- Ensure a watch on the risks around the implementation of the project and submit for decision the possible actions if necessary;
- Provide the necessary technical expertise and support in carrying out the various components and activities of the project;
- Ensure the interface with the PBF Secretariat based in the Office of the United Nations System Coordinator in Cameroon;
- Ensure the full participation of the Government of Cameroon-UNESCO-UNOPS multi-stakeholder team by setting up and facilitating a participatory mechanism for monitoring and preparing project contributions to PBF Steering Committee meetings;
- Liaise with targeted sector ministries, decentralized territorial communities, other UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, local actors and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the project;
- Ensure general compliance with administrative and financial regulations and budgetary requirements of UNESCO in the implementation of the project;
- Coordinate the development of various reports related to the project, as well as contributions to reports and strategic documents on the state of peacebuilding in the country;
- Provide regular progress reports and contribute to the overall project implementation report.
Partnerships and Resource Mobilization
- Develop and establish new partnerships, synergies and all forms of collaboration necessary to achieve the objectives of the project and capitalize on its achievements through networking and proactive collaboration with organizations in society national and international civil society, community groups, leaders and other essential partners;
- Contribute to the formulation of new proposals for projects and programs likely to be financed by the PBF;
- Mobilize resources for scaling up this project.
Communication and visibility
- Coordinate the development of a Project Communication Plan;
- Supervise the development of communication and visibility tools for the project, results, donor, documentation and publication of good practices;
- Report to the Communication and Public Engagement (CPE) team any initiative, result, good practice that deserves special attention in the context of the visibility of the project;
- Set up a system for managing information, knowledge and lessons learned based on the results of the project;
- Perform any additional duties required and assigned by the Area Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of international development, peace and development, culture, social sciences, political sciences, international relations or in a related discipline.
Professional experience
- Relevant experience of at least 7 years in management, coordination of development projects or programs;
- Experience in conflict analysis, conflict-sensitive programming and in the implementation of projects related to social cohesion, conflict prevention, peacebuilding;
- Experience in managing issues related to the management of cultural diversity and multiculturalism in Cameroon;
- Experience in coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders, including different UN agencies and coordinating bodies;
- Relevant experience in program management and the results-based approach;
- Experience in leading consultations with government and donors;
- Experience in project monitoring and evaluation;
- Previous experience with the United Nations would be an asset.
Languages
- Very good command of French and English (spoken and written).

- Excellent oral and written communication skills with high-level interlocutors to facilitate liaison with government and international organizations;
- Ability to assume responsibilities within a team, to take initiatives to support other staff members and to provide quality services in a timely manner;

- Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, database systems, Outlook, etc.);

- Excellent listening and coaching skills.
Other abilities
- Knowledge of peacebuilding issues in the country would be an asset;
- Knowledge of frameworks, practices and sensitivities in social cohesion, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and the promotion of cultural diversity;
- Knowledge of PBF and UN procedures is desirable;
