ABOUT CENC
The National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (CENC) is the seat of the Catholic Church in Cameroon, where the promotion of human dignity is at the center of the concerns of the Sustainable Development Goals. The CENC works to ensure the dignity of the human being, the common good, the subsidiarity and the solidarity of all humans. The development work of the CENC in Cameroon is accomplished through access to quality education, health, the promotion of the commitment of the faithful to the reduction of inequalities and the empowerment of vulnerable groups. The CENC has within it national services ensuring its operation, including the National Coordination of Communication (CONACOM). Its mission is to set up, in collaboration with the other services of the CENC, a communication plan based on targeted and planned actions. It also ensures the implementation of the resolutions taken by the Supervisory Commission.
SUMMARY OF THE NEWSPAPER “L’EFFORT CAMEROUNAIS”
The National Coordination of Communication (CONACOM) wishes to increase its staff within the unit ‘l’Effort Camerounais’. L’Effort Camerounais is a bi-monthly Catholic bilingual information magazine published by the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon. It was created in 1955 by the will of the Bishops to inform Cameroonians and to announce to them the Good News of Salvation. Its current headquarters are in Mvolyé-Yaoundé.
TERMS OF REFERENCE Job
Summary
The journalist is an information professional. He TAKES CARE of finding and analyzing information, then of producing textual, audio and video content to be divulged using the means of mass communication (press, radio, Internet and television). The incumbent of this position should be enthusiastic and able to contribute to the publication of accurate and timely information. He/she will have to be a talented writer, passionate about his work, capable of both informing and keeping readers spellbound.
Collect and process data in order to discover interesting and significant information for the production of the newspaper
Ensure the production of the bi-monthly Effort Camerounais
Develop the editorial strategy of the Journal and its web support
Write, format and correct articles
Carry out a periodic press review
Maintain relations with the press
Update the written content of the site (with the communication manager) Write brief, news, information, etc. in conjunction with the communications manager.
Constitute a database of contacts and sources useful for subsequent research
Monitor useful information for production.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience
Have at least BAC+2 in journalism
Have professional experience of at least one (01) year in a well-known newspaper
Have a good knowledge of the rules of the profession
Have excellent writing skills and abilities
Be skilled in researching, verifying and evaluating sources, data and information
Be able to identify the best topics and treatment angles
Have a good command computer tools
Have mastery of the internet environment and blogging
Good knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop software desired Mastery of written English and scientific vocabulary appreciated
Mastery of computer tools essential
Personal qualities
Creative, dynamic, proactive, autonomous while being able to work in a team
Rigor in the work, sense of confidentiality and ability to adapt
Good time management, ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
Required/desired language: Must be bilingual with a working knowledge of English and French. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
