Action Against Hunger is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO.) International,
apolitical, non-confessional and non-profit.
For our operations in Cameroon, we are looking for:
A CHOLERA “COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION” ANIMATOR
I. PURPOSE OF THE POST
Monitor the implementation and control of community activities in the health districts
of Yaoundé / central region in a cholera epidemic and ensure the maintenance of its dynamism.
II. MISSIONS OF THE POSITION:
Mission 1: Participate in the maintenance and organization of the community network
Tasks:
Participates in the identification (and/or replacement) of community relays in the areas
of intervention
Informs, sensitizes the communities of the health facilities concerned for the
understanding of cholera and community ownership;
Maintains contact with the communities mainly with the community leaders
in order to make the community network dynamic and sends back any useful information to the
hierarchy (team leader supervisor)
Conducts interviews with the community leaders and conducts household surveys;
Ensures the census of households affected by cholera cases
Ensures the dynamism and motivation of community relays as needed;
Strengthens contacts and the information system between community relays at
village level, voluntary associations that conduct cholera awareness and at
health center level;
Creates and maintains contacts with administrative, health and customary authorities Mission 2: Support and supervise the screening and referral of suspected cholera
cases at community level and the installation and maintenance of handwashing points Tasks: Strengthen the capacities of community actors (community relays,) by organizing training sessions on cholera;
Supervise the implementation by community actors of screening,
referral, home visit activities and ensure the quality of these activities and the proper use of
tools;
Supervises the activities of community relays, analyzes the problems encountered and finds
appropriate solutions.
Supervises and analyzes the data of screenings, referrals and home visits reported
by the community relays: consistency between referred by the community and those admitted by
the UTC (cholera treatment units).
Ensures the orientation of relays for the active search for cases, contacts, neighboring households
to ensure the distribution of cholera kits to their households (CATI methodology).
Set up, communicate on its correct use to the community relays and the
population of the villages and supervise the maintenance of the hand washing points
Ensure the organization and regular holding of monthly meetings between the
community relays and the staff health centers and participate in them.
Involves health center managers in the supervision of community relays and
assists them during training sessions for community relays.
Produces training, supervision and screening reports and forwards them to the
cholera supervisor
Supports the cholera supervisor in cholera training for community health workers
Mission 3: Ensure the effective collection of community mobilization data
Tasks:
Ensure the monthly meetings with RC/CS, CS volunteers and members of
community voluntary associations to collect data, analyze the situation of
the epidemic and exchange information with the Head of the Health Center to
find solutions to community problems related to cholera but
also to other infectious diseases;
Collects screening data, and transmits them to the Cholera Supervisor
Writes the summary report for each monthly meeting organized and presents the
results during the ACF team meeting
Identifies weaknesses/dysfunctions in data collection and proposes solutions
to improve the quality of program data;
Reports the difficulties encountered to the Cholera Supervisor;
Mission 4: Participate in the implementation of health/
nutrition awareness activities
Tasks:
Organize and monitor IEC/BCC sessions on cholera (and other waterborne diseases with
epidemic potential) within the community;
In conjunction with the Cholera Supervisor, participates in defining the content of the messages to be
sensitized according to the context;
Identifies other possible communication channels;
Participates in the descents of the mobile caravan, for mobile cinema sessions on
cholera (modes of transmission, prevention, treatment, etc.)
Provides community relays with image boxes and ensures the proper
use of these during awareness sessions.

IV. PROFILE
Diploma / Level of studies / Professional Experience
Baccalaureate level and / or CAP diploma in the fields of health / / WASH / epidemics and / or
social sciences and / or development / community mobilization.
Required Skills
1 year minimum of experience in the field of community mobilization.
Knowledge of animation methods in the community
Knowledge of WASH and health: basic notion of waterborne diseases with
epidemic potential
Ability to animate training sessions for adults, adolescents and children and to speak in public
Experience in the distribution of WASH kits
Mastery of local languages (various)
Mastery of French (read, written, spoken)
Required qualities:
Team spirit- Excellent interpersonal skills – Dynamism – Pedagogue – Ability to
formulate proposals and take initiatives- honest-respectful of the traditions and
customs of the communities.
– Physically fit to travel in the field (90% travel time
in the field)
