Background

The Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation works to catalyze Africa’s economic transformation through social entrepreneurship, science and technology, innovation, public health and progressive policies that create economic opportunities for all. Our areas of work include sustainable development, science and innovation, health, leadership, education, entrepreneurship, economics and public policy. The Denis and Lenora Foundation is a non-profit institution that brings together several departments, including the Nkafu Policy Institute, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Center, communication and sustainable development programs.

The Nkafu Policy Institute   is a leading African think tank whose mission is to provide independent, in-depth and insightful policy recommendations that enable all Africans to thrive in free, fair, democratic and sustainable economies. The Institute brings together leading analysts, experts and contributors from around the world in the areas of governance and democracy; health and education; peace and security; science and technology; and economic policy. Our reputation is based on independence, rigor and innovation.

 

The Institute has four divisions;

The Economic Policy Division   explores how free market systems can help solve a range of economic problems in Africa and Cameroon in particular. He conducts in-depth research and provides cutting-edge economic analysis. This section raises public awareness of the economic issues that affect their daily lives. The economic policy division is currently looking for 01   (one)   intern.

The Division of Education and Health.  The Education and Health Policy Division of the Nkafu Policy Institute focuses on research and evidence-based approaches to key policy challenges in health, education and development.

The Peace and Security Division   primarily focuses on promoting sustainable peace and development in Africa in the context of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063  .

The Democracy and Governance Division   strives to promote the fundamental principles of democracy and governance, including free and fair elections, independent media, accountable and transparent governments, the rule of law and respect for human rights. ‘man.

 

Objective 

The Nkafu Policy Institute is currently seeking highly motivated individuals to join the Nkafu team as interns to promote and advance our work. We target exceptional recent graduates who want to gain practical experience in research, policy analysis, event planning and project management.

Main tasks  

  • Participate in a wide range of activities that support policy advancement at the regional or national level, such as organizing and communicating research, seminars, conferences and workshops.
  • Assist Institute researchers and staff in program-related projects, research and development, including participation in the planning and coordination of activities/events.
  • Perform assigned research tasks, such as conducting literature reviews; find, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Prepare memos, concept notes, presentations, briefs, reports and presentations.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by department staff or management.

Skills and qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

At least a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

  • Degrees in Economics and Business
  • Social and economic sciences,
  • Public health  
  • Peace and Security Studies
  • Governance and democracy
  • Any other area related to the areas of interest of the Institute.  

SKILLS

Functional skills : 

  • Strong writing and research skills; must be able to distill relevant information from large data sets, reports, articles and academic papers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and French.
  • Mastery of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Be a good communicator and team player.
  • Be able to multitask, be extremely organized and have meticulous attention to detail.
  • Desire to learn, take initiative and suggest best practices with a willingness to receive and implement constructive feedback and advice.

What we offer Internship conditions:

  • We offer three (3) months of full-time internship with leading experts and academics.
  • We also offer a transport allowance
  • In-house training and unlimited Internet access.
  • Our interns have full access to research seminars, roundtables, workshops and focus groups organized by the Nkafu Policy Institute and its partners, in addition to lectures on a wide range of emerging issues critical to business and policy interests in Cameroon and abroad. Africa at large.
  • Interns are responsible for purchasing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. The Foundation accepts no responsibility for costs resulting from accidents and/or illness or death occurring during the internship.
  • The intern is responsible for organizing travel to and from Yaoundé where the internship will be carried out.
  • Interns are not members of staff and cannot represent the Foundation in any official capacity.
  • The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to a new job within the Foundation but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship
  • Interns must bring their own laptop to the start of their internship
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and recognition of the work will be issued in writing.
